Sub only release of the two movies on DVD. Movie one, "Gurren Lagann the Movie

for a sub only release? That's probably about how much a dub/sub release would cost. And $24 isn't that much better.

G. Lagann has a good dub cast so I'll probably pass plus I can't see myself paying $50 for two sub only movies (or $80 for the LE), $35-$40 maybe but not $50.

If these had a dub, I'd consider purchasing but since they don't... Pass.
Especially not with those high shipping costs.

The dub from Bandai Ent. was excellent and a release without one just doesn't seem right.

Preordered both LEs already. A dub doesn't matter to me, as I own the original sub-only cheap release and besides the GL dub was one of the few I absolutely couldn't stand and it takes a lot to get me to that point as I'm pretty much alright with dubs. What people forget is that the sub-only Gurren Lagann release Bandai did outsold the bilingual release almost 2:1 because of a) early adopters and b) cheaper. The TV ratings were abysmal from what I recall from one of Bandai's reps late last year.

$40 a pop for the LE is better than paying R2 prices of $75 for the LE. $23 a pop for the RE is better than paying R2 prices of $55 for the RE. A steal of a deal, if you ask me. Not to mention neat postcarRAB, book and most importantly, Parallel Works.

It's important to remeraber that BANDAI has been trying out this approach for a bit now- Gundam Unicorn being one of the most recent ones they are doing it with. They typically release a dub and sub version up to a year after releasing the sub version only. It has allowed them to increase profits while giving those that want subs only what they want and those that want both versions what they want at a later time.

Quite surprising that Aniplex would get into the US anime business. It's a little bit more shocking, to me anyway, that they would rely on Bandai instead of corporate cousins Sony. Yeah, yeah, Sony Music Japan (owners of Aniplex) is a beast and outside sources have released more Aniplex-produced products in America than Sony Pictures.

As for the Gurren movies, I may consider it since sub-only stuff now no longer bothers me and while the pricing is still a little bit high, the pricing is still better than in Japan. TheMP3000 is right on that. YesAsia.com has each movie listed as $55.99 for the regular edition and $81.25 for the limited edition. Although, I do hope that their Blu-ray prices aren't insane by US standarRAB.

As for future products, I know what they may be: The Garden Of Sinners. Remeraber those Shonen Jump aRAB that plugged the Gurren movies at Viz Cinema? I do. Plus, it may be better than milking us dry over 6 Bakemonogatari Blu-rays (yes, they produced it). If they do go into releasing shows (which I may doubt and think it would be better releasing movies and OVAs), I hope they realize that 13-episode sets are the way to go.

Thing is this is Aniplex releasing these. Like NIS this is there first venture in the R1 market. They've already stated that unless there is a broadcast version, expect no English dub.

I wonder if they're also going for A-1 Pictures anime as well.

It's about time, but sub only is disappointing, special edition required for Parallel Works is disappointing (especially since I know I'll be buying them), and Bandai Store exclusive is disappointing. Sigh... off to order them...

Yeah, it does. I suppose the GL movies are a bit more than twice as long as a Gundam UC episode, but still.

I think their rationale for this (it's harder to distribute anime now, therefore we will limit ourselves and sell these only online) is kind of weird, unless Gurren Lagann the series somehow just didn't move well in B&M stores (or well enough in their eyes, whatever that means). Selling it via Bandai's site strikes me as more exclusive than putting Gundam UC on Amazon, but eh. I guess there's a calculation that the GL movies are for the very devoted and informed fans out there, which may not be false.

I don't know all its details, but I think it has a similar amount of new footage. I know for a fact that a lot about the final battle changed.

Gundam Unicorn has a dub. However, if you just order the DVD release instead of the Blu-Ray release, then all you get is the Subbed version. If you wish to get the dubbed version on DVD, you have to wait for a date that hasn't even been announced yet.

The only DVD release is restricted to R2 for the moment anyhow, so.....yeah. In any event, I wouldn't hold out for a dubbed release of these films. Maybe if they do really well they would, but for good or ill they pretty clearly don't have that on the table right now. Maybe S23-esque success would help, who knows.
