Hey, guys, sorry I'm a little later than I had hoped with this, but I had some stuff to do getting everything ready. I'll try to do 2 a day, but we will see how it goes. Each episode will have a review for it, stating why it should be on the countdown, and at the end of the review, the person who wrote it is credited. If no one is credited, then I wrote the review. For starters, here are the Honorable Mentions.

Honorable Mentions:

Recess(1997-2001)
Fillmore(2002-2004)
Batman: The Brave and The Bold(2008-)
W.I.T.C.H.(2005-2006)
The Powerpuff Girls(1998-2004)
Megas XLR(2004-2005)

and the start of the countdown with #25 today.

25. Penguins of Madagascar (2008-)

Penguins of Madagascar may very well be the savior of Nickelodeon. It gave them a great and popular show to fall back on behind Spongebob. Madagascar was already a great movie and the penguins were the best part of it and very deserving of a spin off. It's a success. This show has the best humor from a Nicktoon in a really long time. The new characters are excellent and the old ones have been vastly improved upon. It seems to improve every episode with no sign of slowing down. It should be around for a while.

23.(TIE) Death Note(2007-2008)

Death Note, is one of my favorite anime of the decade. A suspenseful thriller where Light, who has goals to bring in an era of peace, goes about it by killing anyone that gets in his way. He does this with the help of a magic notebook that makes anyone who's name written in it die, and the original owner, a shinigami named Ryuuk. What I like about the show the most is that it always keeps the viewer on its toes, as Light must constantly battle it out with detective L over a series of mind games. With incredible surprises throughout the show, there's no doubt that this shouldn't be on the Top 25. -Review by Dudley

23.(TIE) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003-2009)

The 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon was one of the biggest cartoons of the 2000's decade. Even though it was a show that was created for children, it was one of the darkest cartoons that you'll ever see on a Saturday morning. Many of the show's stories were taken directly from it's source: the original Mirage comics. Rather than being a cartoon that consisted mostly of stand alone episodes, this show featured stories that built upon themselves like a good book. Fortunately, fans of this show were lucky enough to be treated to seven delightful seasons, and one direct-to-tv movie. -Review by A. Brown

22. X-Men: Evolution
X-Men-Evolution-cast.jpg

When X-Men: Evolution began, it seemed a somewhat risky venture for WB, taking the wildy popular X-Men that had just made their big screen debut, and turning all of them except for Wolverine and Storm into teenagers. The first season started off a little slow, but even as the episodes weren't great, it set down the framework for a good second season and an incredible third and fourth season. The first season introduced the X-Men, and got you to know them as characters so that each episode of the Apocalypse arc where you get to experience their pain, loss, and other emotions it would have so much more weight to it. In the end, we were left with a series that simply amazed, and is one of my favorite cartoons that I've ever seen.

21. Total Drama Series
total-drama-island.jpg

The Total Drama Series was a breakthrough in Candian Animation in America, especially for Cartoon Network. After it's success, it brought 6Teen and Stoked as well. Total Drama Island created a large viewing audience due to the parody of reality shows. And yet despite the reality show jokes, it inspired people to want to watch them due to the interesting concept. (Myself included) The writing is excellent and despite the large cast of characters, each one is great in their own way due to unique character designs and personalities. -Review by The Cartoon

LOSE

To the Total Drama series?

That's just wrong.

I enjoyed TDI and TDA (well what I saw of TDA anyway) and have only seen a bit of Penguins but the rest of those losing to TD honestly disgusts me. It's a fun show but up against all of those? Not nearly brilliant enough to beat all of them. That's just my opinion but I'm already weary of where this list is going.

But man... Megas, PPG, EVO and TMNT? I just can't swallow that well.

I have never seen any of the Total Drama series, but i am sad at how low X-Men: Evo ended up. (of course, more votes woulda helped whichever shows you thought should be on the countdown)

16????? Common people. This is rabroad! We're here to talk cartoons! And only 16 of us are willing to say what our favorite cartoons of the decade are! Shame shame....

yeah, i must admit, for all the complaining about the Blog talkback top 25, I would have gotten more votes than that. oh, and quick note, looking at my list, i just realized Death Note and TMNT actually tied for 23rd, so i have edited and corrected that mistake.

I just didn't vote because I felt The Cartoon's thread was satisfactory enough, and I didn't really see a need for this thread... But I'll still comment on what I like, though! :D

At least i don't have a "WTF? where did this came from?" feeling coming from every single position on this list (so far).

Even if i am not crazy about that or this particular show and don't feel it deserves that or this spot, i can actually comprehend why it's placed there.

I feel the same way. While I probably would have changed the order from the other countdown a bit, it still felt like a solid list and I was content with that, which is why I didn't vote. Plus, I was really busy with personal issues at the time and didn't really feel like posting that much.

Anyway, I'm glad that both TMNT and X-Men Evolution made the list. I thought that they were really great shows, even though Evolution didn't seem to pick up for me until the mutant secret came out and TMNT was generally better during the first five seasons than it's last two. Still, both had a great run and had a solid conclusion. However, I think that I enjoyed Turtles Forever more than the X-Men Evolutions finale.

I also agree that having The Total Drama series beat out shows like TMNT, Penguins of Madagascar and X-Men Evolution feels odd. The Total Drama series is enjoyable. I prefer Total Drama Island over Total Drama Action for the most part due to the better writing and more intense storyline. With Total Drama Action, too many characters started acting out of character, even if they were in character in the previous episode, Heather wasn't a threat and the only thing that I really liked about Total Drama Action was that the finale felt satisfying and Duncan won fair and square, as apposed to Owen's win in Total Drama Island.

While it is an enjoyable series, I would prefer watching quite a few other shows for it. I feel that Penguins of Madagascar does a better job at humor with its smaller cast of characters and more enjoyable plots in its segments than the Total Drama series does, but that's just me.

due to college being about to start, plus the limited participation/interest, I'm not going to be able to finish the list off as started. I do want to thank those who helped out, and here's the rest of the list just so that you know how it was going to turn out. it will mostly be a list, but for the ones that i've seen, I'll add in a review.

20. King of the Hill
19. Ed, Edd, and Eddy
18. Full Metal Alchemist
17. Samurai Jack
16. Disney's House of Mouse
15. American Dad
A great and funny show from Seth Macfarlane, and definitely the most plot driven show he has made. Most of the characters have improved over time, and it is now consistently funny every week.
14. Teen Titans
13. Batman Beyond
One of Bruce Timm's greatest shows, and my 2nd favorite show from the DCAU. Terry McGinnis is a compelling hero, and the way Bruce Wayne was written into the show was done extremely well. Also great were the many different and interesting villains, the best of which was Blight.
12. Phineas and Pherb
Everybody wants to make the most out of their time here on Earth, and yet most people---well, cartoon nerds---are too cynical to believe they can do anything truly exciting at all in their entire lives. Phineas and Ferb consider breaking all possible logic, except the laws of physics, all in a day's work. This might sound like some sort of psuedo-satire/motivational thing, but it's actually just a clever fun cartoon. In one episode, for example, Phineas and Ferb decide to spend their day traveling through Outer Space. When building their rocket, all of their tests result in fiery explosions, until Ferb comes up with the idea of taking the doodle of a bomb out of their rocket formula. The show takes what would probably become a stale formula and turns it into a consistant source of comedy. The two step-brothers even manage to turn their "write a song" day into a satire of one hit wonders and the music industry.

The B-plot centers around Candace, their older sister. Most of the time she tries to prove to her mother that P&F are doing "bad" things in order to have dominance over them, regardless of whether or not she knows why she's doing it. In addition to this formula,

The other B-plot centers around their pet platypus, named Perry, fighting a mad scientist named Dr. Doofenshmirtz. The stories often spoof good versus evil cleshes. Every single one of Doof's inventions ends with "inator" [shrinkinator, naughtyinator, readmymindinator, etc]. Doofenshmirtz has become a fan favorite, and is able to balance parody and good characterization at the same time, which is a difficult feat.

While the show sometimes delves into satire and parody, most of the humor is made up of slapstick. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though. The gags have great timing and delivery, which is very important when dealing with slapstick.(Thanks to Taco Wiz for the review)
11. South Park
10. Invader Zim
9. Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends
8. Kim Possible
7. The Simpsons
6. Futurama
5. The Spectacular Spider-Man
My personal favorite cartoon, of all time, Greg Weisman and company have a surefire classic with this incredible retelling of Peter Parker and company. Although he sticks close to the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko story, Weisman manages to take the stories and make them all his own, and each story feels fresh and new. Just a wonderful show.
4. Family Guy
A great show, although there's little to no plot in most episodes. Of course, i don't watch it for its plot, i watch it for the random gags and absolutely hilarious jokes. after a couple slow seasons, it has picked back up again and is as funny as ever.
3. Spongebob Squarepants
2. Justice League
The best of the DCAU shows, and my 3rd favorite superhero cartoon, Justice League hits all the right notes between action, humor, and great plot. although i didn't feel that Justice League Unlimited was as good as the first two seasons, it still has some great episodes, and is an amazing show overall.
1. Avatar

As long as SSM is in i'm good.

That was my biggest gripe with that piece of randomness that was called "official rabroad list of best animated shows of the oughts".

Even the fact that ATLA takes the first spot on both of these list didn't made it any better.

ATLA taking #1 in "the official list" while SSM was nowhere to be seen, made it a stunt and an oddball (i already rambled on it on avatarspirit forums).

Now it feels deserved and understandable.

You can't really complain about Avatar being 1 because it's YOUR guys's lists that made it so.

This is a pretty okay list. I won't complain since I didn't make a list...
