Toonzone Awards 2009 - Results!

Yeah TSSM is great but winning best character design? I don't buy it. Those designs animate quite well but from a design stand-point they're dull and many of the characters looks the same.

Seriously, why do people love The Spectacular Spider-Man so much?!

I seriously find nothing special about it, yet it swept every award it was nominated? That's impossible.

That's just not fair, don't anyone else agree?

If we agreed with you, it wouldn't have swept the awards. seriously, if you can't enjoy TSSM you just don't like superheroes, that's all there is too it.

It's the best written super hero show to air since Justice League, and probably the best action show in general since then. It's also, in my personal opinion, the best interpretation of Spider-Man outside of the comics, surpassing the movies and other cartoons. It delves into the characters successfully and keeps true to just about everyone's character.

Now I'll have to admit that I haven't kept up with too many cartoons from last year outside of SSM and King of the Hill(which I think could have won a few awards itself), but I felt more satisfied in Spectacular's 26 episodes than I have in most other animated series I've seen(and that includes most anime and Avatar), but what do you think should have won the awards it got instead?

To be fair, look at the competition in the categories. I'm not too big a fan of SSM, but I'd still take it over Phineas and Ferb, Flapjack and Chowder any day of the week. Granted, there's no way I'd vote for it in the character design category, but that's sort of why I would like to see foreign shows in those categories, or at least different American ones. Wakfu would have definitely won my vote for art direction. And writing. And probably most other categories. But in the end, it's not a big deal, it's just a list. We've had about 5 different 'Best of 2009' lists so far so it doesn't make much sense for people to get so worked up over it.

It shouldn't have won character design otherwise I'm cool with it. TSSM is a fantastic show. Easily the best Spider-Man cartoon and one of the best action cartoons ever made according to many. It has it's flaws but it's good qualities make it very easy to overlook those minor issues. It's well written, well acted, and extremely well storyboarded and impressively animated from that. All and all it's a dare I say... spectacular show? Yeah I went there.

From what I've seen, TSSM is a great show, aside from the character designs. But I'm not sure if I want to get into it...

And I guess I can't be too upset about Ponyo leaving empty-handed because it basically had an obscure release. (Limited theaters, I mean)
