Toon Zone's Top 50 Animated Shows

My top twenty list would include:

1. Looney Tunes: The characters are very well developed, the jokes are hilarious, and the plots are climatic.

2. House of Mouse: This is not actually one I would list on the top of the list, but the major reason why I love this film so much is because it is an animated crossover. However, I do prefer the specials, Mickey's House of Villains and Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse, much more.

3. Tiny Toon Adventures: Even though, this is a young version of Looney Tunes, it is its own show. It spoofs media using its own material, I do not know how else to explain it.

4. Spongebob Squarepants: Do I even need to say it? This show has it all: good characters, hilarious laughs, and interesting plot-lines.

5. Family Guy: While the newer episodes are weaker in comparison, this show started out as a charismatic godsend. It may copy jokes from the Simpsons, but quite frankly I do not care, because I never liked the Simpsons anyway.

6. American Dad: An answer to "Family Guy", but a show on its own, also with likable characters and hilarious gags.

7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original series): This is most likely one of the biggest cartoon franchises of all-time. It has everything an audience would want, good characters, good plot-lines, good humor, and overall, just good fun. This show will always has its place in animated history, and will always be better in my eyes than the modern version.

8. The Real Ghost Busters: The show that took the movie it is based on in another direction, providing the characters with more charismatic stories, and watching them battle the strangest of apparitions.

9. The California Raisins: I know this show does not have that many episodes, but it is a gem to me. I love the characters, the music, and the plots of the episodes. It is quite a shame it never met the light of day for being released on DVD.

10. Garfield and Friends: For a cartoon to be based on a comic strip, this cartoon never failed. It always made its characters enjoyable and its plots and humor just as.

11. Gumby: This show is a classic, enough said.

12. Super Mario Bros / the Legend of Zelda: Great video games, great cartoons, I cannot get any more simple than that.

13. Ed, Edd, and Eddy: While this show is a favorite of mine, I would not consider it to be one of the best animated shows of all-time, but it most certainly has its place. Ed, Edd, and Eddy always provide us with laughs, and they are always put in hilarious situations. The cat version of Ed, Edd and Eddy, CatScratch, is just as good, and also deserves a place in the list, but since this is basically a cat version of Ed, Edd and Eddy, I will put in the same place.

14. The Powerpuff Girls: I like the villains, what can I say?

15. The Penguins of Madagascar: To be a spin-off of a movie I do not even like, I can say without a doubt and without any hesitation, that this show has enough willpower to never let me down. Animals also have always fascinated me, and I have always enjoyed zoos, so those are bonuses.

16. Hey Arnold: I always liked it, what more can I say? It is about kids, true, but it is a very benevolent show, to lack a better term. Perhaps, why I vote this show as one of the best animated shows of all-time, might be because children and adults can both value it. It is fine (not coarse), intelligent, and never dull.

17. The Mr. Men Show: I am talking about the modern show, not the 80s one. This show is aimed towards children, but this show appeals to adults, too, that is why I enjoy about it. Even though, it has adult slick, it does not make its slick too dark, so children cannot enjoy it.

18. The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show: I cannot remember much of this lovable canine show, unfortunately, but it deserves a place in animated sitcom history along with its feline companion, Garfield and Friends, being based on of the best comic strips of all-time, my opinion, but an unanimous one at that.

19. Beetle Juice: More interesting than the movie, but every bit just as good. It is a shame the series are not on DVD, but at least three episodes from the series made their way on the special edition of the Beetle Juice live action film.

What should be the twentieth cartoon sitcom of all-time? I have given it much thought, and after much determination, and so many difficult choices. I have decided it shall be .... (drum rolls please)

the Addams Family (the 1992 animated series)

I am not holding anything against the earlier animated Addams Family series, but that is not the one I grew up with, I grew up with the 1992 animated series, and I enjoy it so much, because the characters are good as always, and the plots are always interesting, enough said.

Well, that is my list, so ... there you go. By the way, "narf" means "gah!", a simple ugh, I think, but do not hold me to that. I shall not be held by that.

Looneytunes/Disneytoons

1. Animated Star Wars: Not the new one (Im a star wars nerd soooo....)
2. Penguins of Madagascar (Suprisingly funny)
3. Family Guy (funny)
4. Teen Titans (One of the only "super hero" Shows I like)
5. Batman Begins (The other super hero show I like)
6. Phineas & Ferb (It's original)
7. House of Mouse (I just loved that show when it was on)
8. Recess (Good show)
9. Chowder (Funny in a random way)
10. Total Drama Action (Great show)

No time to make a list, but I have to nominate both "Angry Beavers" and "Invader ZIM". Both shows had such irreverent humor, and great writing, and interesting characters.

1. One Piece- Great characters, epic battles, a perfect mix of comedy and action, and great pacing. Heck, even its Fillers are good!
2. Looney Tunes- No words can describe how great it is.
3. King of the Hill- One of the most underestimated cartoons of all time. KOTH is a great show with funny characters and some great story arcs.
4. SGT. Frog- I'm addicted to it! It's so funny you can't stop watching! The dub might add some unnecessary jokes at times but.. Too Funny!
5. Bo^7- I really was into it for the first 35 episodes, but kinda lost interest at Halekulani. Still, it is one of the funniest anime's of all time!
6. The Simpsons- Even if it has lost some of its charm, The Simpsons continues to be funny (or at least it tries) and no one can deny how great it was in the Golden age!
7. American Dad- A great comedy that has never failed to entertain me.
8. Yu Yu Hakusho-The greatest fighting anime there evere was.
9. Powerpuff Girls- I like the villans primarily, especially Mojo and Him.
10. Case Closed- I can never figure out who the murderer is, and its just a great show overall.

Thanks for all of the lists guys, the main one is going great. I'll still need a good amount more before I establish solid results, but I'm getting there. So keep em' coming! ;)

Well, I have enough lists for the results. The countdown will begin on Monday, but I still want to be as accurate as possible so you can still send in/post your lists until Monday!

Here is my list, but im very sleepy right now so it'll only give explanations to the slighlty less obvious ones (it's 01.45 AM over here...)

10 Beavis and Butthead. It's a true testimony to Mike Judge's comedic genius that he was able to make a show about such one-dimensional characters so consistently funny.

9 Dilbert. Nothing was lost in translation when Dilbert made the transition from comic strip to animated TV show, but a lot was gained, since the intelligent humor of the comics could now be placed within surprisingly good stories.

8 Dexters Laboratory. This shows combination of clever and original stories, varied and inventive cinematography, and great character design made it one of the most flawless cartoons of all time. Most great shows have at least some element that could have been done better, but not this one.

7 Justice Leage.

6 The Powerpuff Girls. What made this show great was pretty much the exact same reasons that i just stated for what made Dexters Laboratory great. I know that the two shows were largely done by different people, but yet they feel as similar in style and content as The Simpsons and Futurama does. The one thing that puts The Powerpuff Girls slightly ahead of Dexters Laboratory is that unlike its purely-for-the-lulz sister series, PPG also had some genuenly awesome action/adventure aspects to it from time to time.

My Top 20 Toons of All-Time

1) Scooby-Doo- I'm surprised that this isn't on more lists. But I loved it as a kid and still love it to this day because of the comedy mixed with mystery solving. Scooby and Shaggy cracked me up with their antics and it was fun to guess just who was behind the masks in every episode. I liked every incarnation of this show although some were better than others. It's easy to see why this show is still popular after 40 years. It's truly a timeless classic. Also produced a ton of clones.

2) Tom & Jerry- Another toon that I'm surprised isn't on more lists. These two were pioneers in cartoon violence. Their chases made (and still make) for lots of laughs, as did the way Jerry used to outsmart Tom. With the exception of the HB version in which they were friends, I enjoyed every incarnation of T&J, and still do to this day.

3) Fat Albert & The Cosby Kids- Bill Cosby is arguably the greatest story teller of all time, and this show told some amazing stories as well as provided many laughs and even educated kids on the facts of life. My favorite character was Rudy, he was cooler than the other side of the pillow, even when he ended up in a jam. It was also the longest running black cartoon of all time, and was the predecessor to another legendary series, The Cosby Show.

4) Looney Tunes- What more can be said about LT that hasn't already been said? Personally, my favorite character is Foghorn Leghorn. He cracked me up big time but I love them all. The greatest thing about Looney Tunes is that it can appeal to anyone, young and old. Yet another timeless classic. I loved the opening sequence in which Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck were singing and tap dancing and the other characters would walk on stage and then they'd sing and tap dance again. I wish that were every LT opening sequence at the start of the show.

5) Transformers- Great cartoon, great toyline, just plain great. It was truly ahead of it's time. I wish the live action movies would have followed the animated series' storyline though. The animated movie was better than both live action flicks IMO.

6) He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe- It really sickens me that some people consider the 2000's version of He-Man to be better than this one. That's completely blasphemy IMO. MOTU's storylines are light years better, which is why it was more successful then the sequel. It had great animation for it's time as well.

7) Yogi Bear- He was smarter and cooler than the average cartoon. Boo-Boo was the ying to Yogi's yang. With the exception of Yo Yogi, I enjoyed ALL of his incarnations. My favorite being Yogi's Treasure Hunt. I'd like to see a new Yogi series, if for no other reason so that he'd get a better send-off series than Yo Yogi was.

8) The Simpsons- Still hilarious after all these years. It's easy to see why this show has been on the air with fresh new episodes after 20 seasons, it always finds a way to re-invent itself.

9) G.I. Joe (80's series)- One of the best written cartoon series of all time. Joe in the 90's wasn't as good, but the 80's version was awesome on many levels. I also loved the "knowing is half the battle" messages at the end of each show.

10) The Flintstones- Witty, groundbreaking, and entertaining. This animated version of the Honeymooners is more funny than the live version IMO. Produced many spin-off series, but the original is still the best. Yabba Dabba Doo!!

11) Top Cat- This show was absolutely BRILLANT and ahead of it's time with all of the venacular that TC used. It baffles me to this day why this show only has 30 episodes because it's clearly one of the best HB shows IMO. Top Cat was an absolute genius at coming up with schemes and making a fool out of Officer Dibble. It's a show that both kids and adults can easily love. HB should have made more series with Top Cat and his gang.

12) Superfriends- The predecessor to Justice League, and later Justice League Unlimited. Even though JL/JLU features better animation, I rank this over it because it lasted longer and was a staple of Saturday mornings in the vein of Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo.

13) Family Guy- While this show isn't quite as funny as it used to be IMO, it's still better than most. The fact that it was brought back twice after being cancelled tells you just how phenomeonal it really is. I wish Seth McFarlane would turn Stewie back into the evil baby genius he used to be though, then FG would return to past glory.

14) The Boondocks- Easily the best cartoon of the 2000's IMO, and would probably rank higher on my list if it were in continuous production. I'm looking forward to the new season in 2010. I've been a fan since the comic strip was around, and the animated series is even better. I love Riley's shenanigans.

15) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (80's version)- I prefer the 80's version to the 2003 version. It had better plots and storylines, better voices, and a catchy theme song. Say what you will about it, but if it weren't for the success of this series, the current one would have never come to exist.

16) Alvin & The Chipmunks- This show were funny, melodic, and entertaining. I loved the way they covered past hits. Probably the best musical cartoon of all time and easily one of the best toons of the 80's.

17) Thundercats- This show had phenomeonal animation for it's time, and it still holds up today. The best show Rankin-Bass has ever created IMO. Lion-O is one of my favorite cartoon heroes. Hopefully the live-action movie does the show justice.

18) Duck Tales- The best Disney Afternoon series. I wish it would have gotten more episodes. I know 100 is a lot, but this show was the best weekday animated series from 1987-1990 IMO.

19) Woody Woodpecker- They really need to air this show again on CN and/or Boomerang. Easily one of the funniest toons ever. Woody's antics had me glued to the TV screen as a kid.

20) Batman:TAS- Great writing and animation. It's virtually impossible not to like this show. The best Fox Kids animated show by far IMO.

Honorable Mentions:
Muppet Babies
Huckleberry Hound
Popeye
Beavis & Butthead
Ren & Stimpy
Laff-A-Lympics
South Park
Garfield & Friends
Inspector Gadget
Heathcliff & The Catillac Cats

Just sent my top 20, I hope it makes the cut! If not, could you post the scoring so I could calculate if my list would've changed the results?

You made it and your list had a pretty decent impact too. That's a good thing. Everyone has about 2 more hours to send their lists and then I will begin the countdown.

EDIT: Time's up. Could a mod please close this? The Countdown is coming up.
