Toon Zone Talkback - Viz Media Announces New April Titles Including "Death Note" Collection 2

Yes, Togashi is indeed awesome.

Its just that Hunter X Hunter isn't nearly as popular as Viz's biggest titles, such as Naruto and Death Note. At least not over here, in the United States. Its a lot more popular in Japan, and maybe some other countries as well.

Also, since Hunter X Hunter can only be purchased online, which is what seems to be the case, so far, it probably won't get as many DVD sales as it would if it were much easier and simpler to attain.

Um...what series are you referring to?

Really, these prices aren't bad at all. They're about equivalent to what FUNi or Bandai would charge.

And, you can't forget that FUNi has full seasons of DBZ for just $40 a piece, as well as 28 episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho, in 4 season sets, for just $25 a piece, which is easily the best deal that I have ever seen for any anime, on DVD, to date.

As much as I love Death Note (its one of my top 3 favorite anime, and my favorite manga of all time), even I have to say that $70 for 17 episodes is way too much. If you break that down/divide it up, that comes out to roughly $20-$25 for just 5 or 6 episodes, which isn't much better than most DVD single releases that you usually see for anime on DVD.

I agree, 70$ is way too much, but I can get it on Amazon for 40$, which isnt too bad, but I would never pay more then 60$ for a set..it's madness

The Inuyasha sets have at least 20 episodes, which is less than $5 an episode...hardly $10 an episode. And Viz never had DragonBall Z. Also, the One Piece sets have an MSRP of $50.

Okay, I guess the Death Note collection may be a bit pricey, but you're still saving at least $30 by going with the set instead of the singles. And besides, like Yusuke mentioned, it's not too hard to find the set at a price way below MSRP.

Yes! I would so prefer having some Johto box sets than the All-Stars DVRAB. I've honestly never understand why they have three episodes a "best of" disc. I think that would make more sense as maybe a "best of" marathon instead of a DVD. Personally, I would much rather buy season sets than a disc with three episodes.

I was definitely hoping for a Johto Journies set here. They released the Orange Island set awhile go and they're almost done with Diamond and Pearl. At the very least, I was hoping for the third set to that season here. Oh well. Hopefully they'll announce it soon. I actually haven't bought anything from Viz for quite some time. I got the Diamond and Pearl sets as Chirstmas gifts so I don't think those would count. It doesn't really help that they release a small amount of sets and series, with only Pokemon catching my interest among them.

When inuyasha started, Viz released only 3 episodes per DVD which were about $25-$35. This is what I was referring to.

This seems like a good topic to ask, so how do so many stores such as BB and especially wal-mart sell these things for so much lower than MSRP?

True, but I never actually said that you couldn't get it at a cheaper price. My main point was really just that FUNimation has Viz beat when it comes to retail prices. If you can find the DVD's at a good deal online, then the Viz sets become much more reasonably priced, just like you said. Although, I would just like to point out that you can also get the FUNimation sets at even cheaper prices online, as well.

You know what really annoys me about their Death Note releases, the fact that they chose to release the figures of nobody characters (the two Shinigamis that do not matter) over the important characters like Light's dad, Takada, Matsuda, and Mikami.

So do I. At the very least, they could finish the single discs since they've already finished dubbing the series. I did hear that the third box set for Diamond and Pearl will come out in March, so I have at least one set from Viz that I'll buy sometime this year.

Seconded...thirded....forthed, whatever.

I just want this to happen, seriously. It's seems so cruel to get so far into the singles then stop and never give us anything. I'm hoping the new deal leaRAB to a lot of new sets, or at least the completion of old ones.
