Toon Zone Talkback - "Toon Zone Throwdown" Top 5 Event

I have no idea where this would qualify, but I feel that the final battle of Beyblade G Revolution (where a black hole is manifested and an entire city is decently leveled in a fight between two spinning tops) should get an honorable mention somewhere for the sheer insanity of it.

I don't know in terms of awesome fights in JLU I'd have to put the Superman v. Capt'n Marvel fight and the Flash v. Luthor/Brainiac fights on there atleast one of them.

Put 'em up! Time for Round 3: Top 5 Power Fights!

You know, I find it funny that one of the first fights of the series stays on top for so long, especially given how many fights there are in DBZ. It's even funnier when you consider that no fight even comes close to topping it until...Goku vs. Vegeta Round II in the Buu saga. :P

And because I know people will question the choice of the Masho fight: I'm the one who nominated it because I loved that entire fight from start to finish. I didn't like the first round fight because Kuwabara lost on a technicality and the Knife Edge Death Match, though cool, went on a bit too long. The Ichigaki fight was emotional, but not all that spectacular. As for the semi-final fight (sorry, I keep blanking on the names), I hated how horribly Shishiwakamaru defeated Kuwabara, which trumps the awesome debut of Yoko Kurama and Genkai's victory over Suzaku.

As for the Toguro fight? Well, Kurama vs. Karasu was fun, but it was average for a Kurama fight. Hiei vs. Bui had horrible animation, not to mention Bui was downright boring. If you've read up to this point, you can probably guess my reaction to the Kuwabara vs. Elder Toguro fight. As for Yusuke vs. Younger Toguro, it had its moments, but Toguro was never my favorite villain and the Kuwa fake-out was cheap beyond belief.

Oh, and I absolutely hated Yusuke vs. Sensui (both rounds), so no way was I going to nominate that one.

Just reading what you two have to say about said fight makes me regret not picking up Season 1 of Clone Wars when it was $8 at GameStop.

Kuwabara the best character? I can see why you like him, but I myself wouldn't name him the best.

*gasp*

Another great list. Luffy vs. Crocodile is definitely up there, lots of brutality and emotion going on.

Er...clearly, I need to seriously watch Avatar straight through. That fight looks insane.

Well I am glad that One Piece fight gets a mention in this, though I am more suprised it the movie version of it, which I was sort of suprised of how good of a fight it was considering the movie was a shorten version of Alabasta story. Naruto one was one of my favorite fights, well next to the Shukaku Gaara vs Naruto, Sasuke, I still like the Shukaku one over that one since Naruto saving his friends. Avatar one was well animated with it special effects and one where the villains win at the end, and at the season finale of all things. Well I can Duke isn't alone when it came to the YYH Dark Tournament fight between Team Masho, since Masho was something that made me buy the DVD singles of that fight alone, s and I liked how it was Kuwabara that won them the fight. To me for the DBZ one, well atleast that one wasn't as repetitive as the likes of Frieza, or the Cell ones, I like DBZ and glad that it is a Goku and Vegeta fight as well.

It should additionally be stated that an extended cut of Gok? v. Vegeta is available for me to post if any true believes would like to see. Mostly it's just a regurgitation of the fight, blow for blow, but it's got some funny junk in there...sort of.

I had sort of written DBZ for 1619 words or so before I was told "That's too long." :p

You make me want to punch myself in the face.

Anyway, even though I'm not intimately familiar with a few fights, I guess I can say the lists were pretty entertaining. There's still a bit of a subset I feel was missing (namely, the anime monster battles I love so dearly), but that's a minor complaint since those types of battles are rarely outside of anime.

Most of all, I think it makes me want to watch Watership Down. I tried reading it, but just didn't find myself very entertained...the cartoon may be worth checking out, though, if for that slugfest alone.

Oh, there's enough different types of battles/fights out there that we could do TZ Throwdown for at least 2-3 months (at 5 days a week no less, if we did 1-per-week, it could easily last a whole year).

Knew I forgot one DVD extra. These were some of the discarded ideas we had for other "Throwdown" topics, which may just get recycled for future ones:

- Top 5 Swordfights (mostly a more specific version of "Duels")
- Top 5 Gunfights
- Top 5 Giant Robot Fights
- Top 5 Monster Fights
- Top 5 Bench-Clearing Brawls
- (EDIT): One more -- top 5 rivalries

-- Ed

Bebop would've gone up there if we had a Gunfight list and the first battle between Spike and Vicious was one of the nominees for the Duels list, but ultimately it didn't make it.

I'd like to see a verbal throwdown. An animated who-pwns-who. That would be interesting - and fun - to run a top five based on script rather than animated qualities.

I'd have chosen Kenshin vs. Saito for the duels list, and it would certainly be top of my list for swordfights. I don't know many times I watched that fight with the DVD on slomo.
