Let's not forget Benny The Cab from Who Framed Roger Rabbit:
- Good nonsensical humor when he talks.
- The fact that he can point you to the right lever makes drivers ed obsolete.
- If you believe that having a particular car will help to impress a lady friend, then why not one that opens the door for them.
- Plus he can drive another vehicle pretty well if he breaks down.

I like IGPX but I don't know if the mechs deserved to be even runners up on a list of iconic cars. They're not cars and they're not iconic... but whatever.

I definitely agree on the Lupin III cars, even though I'm having difficulty recalling any of them looking like Hitler's. He did some really wild stuff in those getaway cars.

To my eyes, the Transformers combine three things guaranteed to hit the hot buttons of little boys everywhere: cars, fighter planes, and giant robots. I thought Optimus Prime counted enough as a car to qualify for the list. If we did a top planes list, a Decepticon could make it on there, though the only one I know by name is Starscream and I thought he was kind of lame.

There is no ordering intended for either the winners or the runners-up, which is why I wrote "in no particular order" before leaping into both lists.

IMO, there is a distinction between a flying car and a plane. The flying vehicles in something like Blade Runner or The Jetsons or the DeLorean in the Back to the Future sequels aren't planes or spaceships -- they're cars that go airborne. It's splitting semantic hairs, I know, but that's why the Jetsons' car could make the list while something like Spike Spiegel's Swordfish II couldn't.

Not to say that there won't be future top planes or top spaceship opinion pieces in the future, but if we did, then the Jetsons car would be disqualified from both of those lists.

While I'm at it, Benny the Cab did come up in discussions, as did a few others already mentioned. We just ran out of room, and I'll freely admit that the selections for the runners-up list was pretty arbitrary. Surprisingly, I don't think anybody mentioned the Simpsons' station wagon.

I don't mind if people disagree, but if you do, then tell us your ideas for replacements. It's all meant in fun.

I think the Men In Black's LTD deserves a nod. That car was out of this world! Hidden behind the disguise of a boxy 1986 Ford LTD, was a vehicle that could hit max speeds past 600 mph with the touch of a little red button, cling to the tops of tunnels, and came packed with the high tech weapons used by the agents.

When something was amiss, the computer system could run diagnostics by voice command, and in Season 4-- Dr. Zan'Zozz Zeeltor outfitted the car with technology that could save storage-- and the car itself, by compacting the whole vehicle to the size of a small cube.

Kinda bummed it didn't even get a mention.

....I totally forgot about the MIB Issue SUV. Not my cup o' tea, but still an impressive vehicle with the same technology as the LTD-- and became a season 4 addition to the cars.

For the Flintmobile, there is a gas pedal. Fred couldn't get all over Bedrock, much less anywhere he, Wilma, and the Rubbles go on vacation to with one push. I read a book on the making of the Flintstones movie, and it revealed that after the initial pushoff by John and Rick, there was a gas pedal that John used to keep it going.

Gas Pedal? Makes sense, since Fred can't possibly go all that way by himself. And it would really just be running inside a wood box with wheels.

THE FOXXY 5 VAN SHOULD BE ALL 5 ON THAT LIST.

HAY HAY HAY!

But srsly, I do love that cartoon vehicle. The fact that it played in an awesome two-parter and didn't have to talk to do so is awesome.

A few episodes show Fred filling up the car at a "gas station" (the "gas" pump being a woolly mammoth's trunk).

Vaguely recall one of the spinoffs (think it was an episode of "The Fred and Barney Show") during one of those "gas station" gags depicting what the "engine" was----a lizard in a hamster wheel, using the "gas" as its food. Which I guess would make the Flintmobile like a moped----and covers both the use of the "gas station pump" gags and letting it stay foot-powered otherwise. ;-)

I'm surprised Dick Dastardly's car from Wacky Races didn't appear, I love the cars in Wacky Races, but Dick's probably is the best.
Hanna Barbera cartoons had really slick cars.

I think that this list pretty much covers anything truly iconic, but I do wish Carl's Pimpmobile from ATHF was on there. Not an icon, I know, but it would have been a good gag.

You know, the one Wacky Races car that comes to mind for me is the Pink Pussycat. Nothing against The Mean Machine, but it's Penelope's ride that I'll always remember the most.
