Ah, this was a good one. I did like this anime though it wasn't exactly Gonzo's return to form (did they ever have a "form"). It was a pretty good distraction and the first series did pull one hell of a cliffhanger so I gotta give them credit for that.
At the very least, episode 1 is perhaps one of the most memorable RPG cliche humor moments ever.
Pretty much the same thoughts as with Blassreiter: Good review, I'm glad it's well-liked by others as well as myself, I planned to buy this anyway, and I'm surprised and glad to hear that it has some real extras on it.
ANN had a similar opinion:

Once Gonzo began to grow, it ended up with fairly ridged A-/B-/C-list teams, and obviously with that balance, you're going to have a lot more B and C quality shows. That setup still exists today at the studio, reorganization aside.
For a second there, I thought it was another add-on tot he series, but I see it is not. Either way, it was a very enjoyable series to me. Great review.
I will sheepishly admit that a lot of my favourite anime titles in this decade were Gonzo productions. I think there were more Gonzo shows I liked than Gainax and Sunrise in the past 6-8 years, but that may be because of their sheer quantity at one point. If you blast a machine gun at a target, some are bound to hit it, even if 55 others miss badly...
