Toon Zone Talkback - Sony Gets U.S. Distribution Rights to "Planet 51"

They easily could've put it in between Potter and the Jim Carrey Comedy, but then again most of their advertising would go towards Potter, so it's a sensical idea to do. Especially with most non-Disney/Dreamworks CGI films not doing too well (Ice Age series the real only exception)

Okey-Dokey. I dunno why, but I expecting something a bit more darker (in color) than this:

It probably came from the fact that many movies in that area were more than likely in B&W, which was why I was excepting such a different design.

This was going to be New Line Cinema's first CG animated feature.
I don't fully understand why Sony had to pick it up. They have their own studio.

They didn't have to, but they're the only big studio sans Universal and WB that don't have a animation studio that regularly churns out animated films these days (Disney-Pixar, Paramount-Dreamworks Animation, Fox-Blue Sky Animation). Plus they have no animated movie for this year (Unlike the 3 aforementioned).

The weird thing is that Box Office Mojo says it comes out in July 2009, while WB canned it because they couldn't fit room with Potter, which comes out in November 2010, and it's not the Potter movie coming out this year). The movie isn't delayed, from based what I read, shoudl be completed in March 09. Very Weird

Ya, I realized that and edited my post while you posted that

still really confused tho, especially since the only 2nd Part of 09 releases for WB is Where the Wild Things (Not CGI, in October) and some New Line holdovers (Not kid targeted)
