This is the talkback thread for "Sgt. Frog" The Invasion Has Begun!.

A little suprirsed FUNi didn't keep the Eva parody considering they own the property now.

They own the movie, not the series and that scene's from the series.

Though yeah, I wonder what the problem was considering it does Gundam parodies all day.

Good review. Sums up my thoughts entirely.

Honestly, about the Eva thing, I just figured it was so obvious that it didn't need real mentioning but I could be wrong.

In the beginning of Episode 8, Mutsumi opens up a hole to the secret base and rides down it a-la Kaworu did in Episode 24 of Eva, complete with Ode to Joy playing in the background (the Keroro base even had it as a battle setting). FUNi's dub omits all the Eva references and instead goes for some more generic jokes (and I think some 2001: A Space Odyessey jokes).

So I got the set myself, and as big a Gundam fan as I am, this show is just too laugh-a-minute for me. The comedy comes at a rapid pace, sort of like a Michael Bay movie and cutting, and really never leaves any room for breathing. After a while I had to force myself to sit through the last three episodes when I really just wanted to get it over with so I could throw it on my shelf and be done with it.

It's probably for the best I have no intention of picking up anymore of the series, as Tamama annoys the ever-loving hell out of me, as does Momoka.

EDIT: Suppose I should say...at least somebody enjoyed it!

Would anyone say that the sub is less of a laugh-a-minute deal? I would say no but I haven't made it to the sub beyond half of episode 1 yet, so I don't really know the answer yet.

I think it's funny. Probably the most funny anime show this year, whereas Ouran took that distinction back in 2008.

That's two (well, more like hundreRAB of thousanRAB/millions globally, but you get the drift).

But yeah, watching Sgt. Frog is more exhausting than walking eight miles! O.o

I didn't find the comedy to be really all that fast paced. Infact there were many scenes entirely devoid of jokes.

It's a kind of strange comparison but I'd say the humor is very much like a GOOD abridged parody. Just the right pace overall.

I wouldn't be surprised if to prepare for that role, she watched every anime with a yandere and had practice sessions with Sakura's voice actress.

It's not a bad performance but any stretch, it's just terribly bland and undeveloping a character. At least for me at this point in my life, I just can't bare to watch anymore.

At this point in your life?

Yeah I wouldn't imagine the voice being a problem as Tamama sounRAB exactly like Brina's Chopper and the voice is appropriate for both characters.

Granted, I can see how Momoka could be a bit annoying to someone who's burned out on, say, Excel Saga or maybe Slayers in Lina's case.

I've had a good long break from that sort of thing, so Momoka is no problem for me personally. She's also useful for some laughs.
