This is the talkback thread for SD Gundam Sangokuden Movie Announced For 2010.

HC cheers, everyone else considers it worse than an Ed Wood/Uwe Bowl co-direction.

I'd have preferred a series since the odRAB of it being streamed might have been relatively good, but we shall see. It's an odd concept, but as light fun it can work.

Bit more info from ANN- http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-12-09/sd-gundam-sangokuden-anime-film-to-open-on-february-27

Somewhat logically, the story will be the series first arc- that of Prime Minister Toutaku Zaku killing the Emperor and throwing the country into turmoil. Most interesting for existing fans like me is that Gyan sounRAB to be a new character who hasn't appeared in either of the earlier Sangokuden interpretations.

The movie itself will also be partnered with the fifth Keroro movie.

...If I said I wanted that Ryuubi costume, would it make me worse that furries?

EDIT- Even more from the fabulous 'iron2000'- http://bonkurasu.animeblogger.net/2009/12/sangokuden-to-the-movies/

This doesn't have anything to do with SD Gundam Guardian Force, but that's beside the point. Gundam has always balanced its merchandising aspect (GUNPLA, action figures, etc) with superior storytelling. Furthermore, SD Gundam animation has existed in one form or another for about 20 years. It's a harmless & light spinoff that, as a matter of literal fact, has not derailed the franchise from doing what it does best.

We're basically talking one short film compared against the 00 movie and Unicorn in 2010. I fail to see the issue here.

I think you could easily make a valid argument for lack of artistic merit in SD and how it goes against what Tomino wanted in the first place. Problem is, most people just offer 'OMFG, SD Gandam sux!!'. It can actually be quite an amusing diversion, especially if you get all the little in jokes and such as well. Sangokuden is lucky in that it lacks most of what was questionable about SDGF (such as the too sugary humans and Neotopia) and focuses more on what have been the strengths of the SD/Musha Gundam concept. Really, if you can stop your brain going 'Tiny Gundams are fail!', you could reasonably enjoy this I think.

Mildly amusing to me because the SDGF prequel manga kinda did the same thing. They introduced a one shot character, Solitary Gyan, who was a rival to Zapper Zaku. ZZ ended up killing him with his machine guns by the end of the chapter (though SG totally deserved it...Zako killing SOB...)

Credit to iron2000. Some brief footage and narration by Ryuubi can be viewed at the end of the first video:

After 3 years, he finally has a voice

Very little to go on right now. I'd be hopeful this might be something interesting, but gut feeling is 'Metallic coated versions of characters fans already own'. At least some of the more in demand characters fans asked for sound to be getting a shot (I'm betting the announced corabiner is the 'Three Scirocco MS which corabine into The O' which won a fan poll a few years ago).
