Sorry I just now saw this thread.

A lot of you are assuming that this new project involving Krofft Entertainment and Ruby-Spears is not going to pay the Jack Kirby Estate anything.

I would not be supporting it if that were the case.

As it happens, everyone involved decided that this would not be right and so the estate will have a financial interest in what happens.

Can you say if there is a related art book being done? If so, how is that coming along?

ME: Yes, there is such a book. I'm just starting on it. The publisher intends to have it out in about 18 months.

I suppose this is what I get for jumping to conclusions. All the news coverage seemed to make a big deal out of, "Look! No ownership issues! All work-for-hire, free-and-clear, no pesky lawsuits for us!" I don't know if this was played up by the NY Times or the others that covered it, or if it just never came up when the reporters were talking with the parties involved. I probably should have known that this wouldn't be happening when the Times namechecked you, but the article also gave me the impression that you were only working on the art book.

In any event, this is great to hear, mea culpa about not following up on stuff I should, and while I'm still a bit dubious about what'll come out of it, one of the major gripes I had about it goes away nicely.

Definitely looking forward to the art book, though.
