Toon Zone Talkback- "RPG High" Taking Video Game Characters to School

So it'll basically be Clone High mixed with Drawn Together. Aside from that, I'm not sure how to view that since a lot of those parodies of *INSERT POPCULTURE MEDIUM HERE* tend to be pretty shallow and rely on superficial generalizations.
 
"Clone High mixed with Drawn Together" is being too generous. They said it's targeted at tweens. Tweens in Singapore. Meaning I have no idea what to expect here. But expertly targeted satire, I doubt.
 
I actually don't see much potential in this. There's potential for one episode, but after that, how do you have a whole series based on this concept? I have a feeling that, much like Drawn Together, it will eventually devolve into just another vehicle for gags that could be done on any other show. It's an easy pit to fall into when the motivation behind the main characters is a gag in and of itself.

The same goes for Li'l Bush.
 
The funny (well, not really 'funny', but kind of ironic) thing about that is that I thought both Drawn Together and Game Over were both better ideas than they were shows. The premises had promise, but each series lost something in the execution. The former (DT) relied too much on crude toilet/kinky sex humor, while the latter (GO) was just dull and uninteresting. The highlight of Game Over was the scene in the pilot episode in which the family pet catches a glimpse of the mom naked in the shower, and UPN made them cut out that scene! :sad:
 
RPG has the potential to be great, because they can parody a bunch of classic video games.

And since it's targeted toward teens or kids, it won't have to heavily rely on toilet humor.
 
A video game parody show like this could be great, there's a lot of possible material there. Problem is though, it seems like few people can make a good, intelligent parody anymore. I doubt it will be good because of this, Drawn Together is a testament to that.
 
What good is producing a video game themed cartoon without a licensing deal for an actual video game based on the show? I mean, shouldn't that be done before an episode airs? While I would hope for some good video game parody episodes based on a bunch of games, I get the feeling that the writing for the show may not be that great. Without hiring someone acquainted with recent titles, we may get a show that implies all video games are like "Pac-Man" or "Super Mario Bros." which would lead to the same jokes repeating over and over again.

It was around the late 1980s and early 1990s that Nintendo helped make the "Captain N" cartoon on NBC Saturday mornings. While it did have entertainment value, it really was meant to showcase Nintendo's marketing genius (something seen with the current Wii sales) - the show made very little effort to disguise that it was really advertising the Nintendo Entertainment System and its accompanying games and made Nintendo synonymous with video games at that time. Without doing something similar for this show, it may not be very successful.
