Toon Zone Talkback - Right Stuf & Nozomi Licenses "Dirty Pair"

Yes, yes, YES!!! Freaking yes! I've waited ages to see the Dirty Pair TV series get licensed and it is! Thank you, Shawne and the rest of you guys at Right Stuf for this announcement! This absolutely made my day!

I'm actually now hopeful that other anime properties from the 80's will end up getting their possible licenses like Kinnikuman and Dr. Slump!

Sub only. Pass.

A long long time ago, I thought that Adam Warren's take on the Dirty Pair would make a perfect Adult Swim show. Those days are long past.

You were expecting a dub given how old this show is? Not to mention what small market it's catering to.
After all, when ADV dubbed the OAVs in 1999 the clean Music & Effects tracks were long gone. I doubt they still exist for the TV series. The Eden movie and the two stand-alone OAVs were lucky.

Yeah, Warren's comic would've made an interesting show for AS. Though whether Sunrise and Takachiho-san would've agreed to such a thing is a whole other matter.

Well, more DVRAB for the rest of us.

Awesome news! This will be a great pickup for them. I don't think it's the original "Girls with Guns" show, but it did set the standard for them. Kei and Yuri will ride again, bringing back the days when women were women, not waifs.

1. Don't get me wrong, I like the show concept (liked the OVA's) and want to see it, but Right Stuff charges a premium, and premium costs for bare-bones material is not a wise economic investment.

2. Either that or Warren's take on Bubblegum Crisis would have been perfect. They were both faithful while having a decided Western spin. You're probably right in that Sunrise wouldn't bite, but they did approve the comic.

This is a another very cool aspect of the series that was replicated in so many other anime of the 80s and 90s. An amusing aspect of this license is that you can gauge the somewhat puzzled reactions from the moe fans on other forums, seemingly used to much younger and slightly more passive/submissive female protagonists. Not that the Dirty Pair are any less of a stereotype, but I know which stereotype I always preferred!

It is admittedly hard on the wallet, but beggars really can't be choosers when it comes to previously-unlicensed 25-year-old anime series. I guarantee that with the current market conditions being what they are (i.e. if the R1 companies were on a Doomsday Clock, it would be 1 minute to midnight) it would have been a premium release by Right Stuf, or nothing at all. I know which I'd rather prefer!

This I don't get. Their prices are no worse than anyone else's, and you get nice packaging. They even occasionally toss in a booklet and pre-order bonuses for no extra cost. Their releases are hardly barebones. Even with a dub, FUNimation's releases are probably closer to that.

Do what I do, hunt down the sales. Looks like about 2 hours left as of now to use the current coupon code to save on Right Stuf Nozomi Products.

I am happy that someone finally did it. I could kick myself since I had a blind guess that about this two days ago. I had just figured for fun I would enter and type in Dirty Pair as the license... but I didn't. Though I wasn't even thinking the Password would have been Lovely Angels, I was going to go with Russian Roulette, as in the opening theme for the show. I was really unhappy with myself for not entering the contest. Oh well...

Alright now if Bandai can bring the rest of the Universal Century Gundam series over I will be really happy.
