Toon Zone Talkback - "Rango" Brings Back the Oater in Rugged Style

I saw it yesterday, the hour I tried to watch it at had already sold out by the time I got there so I had to come back at a later. It was a fantastic movie.

I wish I liked this as much as most critics did, but far too often it's funny perculiar as opposed to funny ha-ha (I don't think I laughed out loud even once during the film). Lines like "If this were Heaven, we'd all be eating Pop-Tarts with Kim Novak" are just plain odd. Plus, the amount of disgusting toilet humor and truly grotesque character designs makes this very iffy for the under-eight set. I admired some of the visuals and action sequences, and the voice acting was fine, but overall I was more confounded than entertained. Nice to see an animated movie not playing to the Pixar/Dreamworks style, but it was a near-miss for me.

**1/2 (out of ****)

The movie was animated by ILM and its their first feature length animated film. Not really a "Nickelodeon" movie. Paramount released it through Nickelodeon films though.

I hope this is the talkback for this film.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. But I think I need to sit and digest it before I can say it was good or bad.

I really enjoy the setting, the gritty western nature, and such. But something about the narrative isn't sitting quite right with me. Maybe its just how out of place Rango is, but that was kind of the point, so I don't really want to fault the movie for it.

I like very much how this wasn't a kids movie. Things actually dying, guns being fired, everything is ugly. I love ugly things. I'm tired of seeing pretty or cute things. I really hope we start to see more movies like this. Honestly, things like Despicable Me made me really fear for the future of animation in America. But Rango at least gives me some hope.

Finally got to see this movie today, and it was incredible. Notably above all else, the visuals. I mean shots they used for the action scenes, the dream sequences, and the character designs are among the best I've seen in an animated film in a long time. It's unique, gritty, and creative.

I can't wait to see more from ILM!

When I saw it 2 Sundays ago, I really liked it. I liked how it was more adult oriented and I really really liked the visuals. The movie looked really awesome and I can't wait for the Blu-ray.

9/10

Saw this film.... loved it.
Why?
A satire of highest order.
.lot's of fun, great lines, wonderful western gags..
Western plot.... the new guy comes to town..
He becomes the sheriff, by accident..and then..

Lots of great surprises and ideas...Reminds me of Blazing Saddles..and Cat Ballou..

definitely an adult movie (kids will not get the jokes..they still may enjoy this) ...and especially for movie buffs
and anyone who likes westerns, and knows about them....________________________________

So...I saw this one last Friday..and walking in..I didn't know what it was...Johnny Dep????who is he.???
But it ain't about him..
It is about westerns and the fun of watching them and all the in jokes about them.
Moreover..the animation is great, the backgrounds, the colors, and mix of them is great, and lots
of wonderful surprises too. I can't help but laugh thinking about this film. Go see it in the theater, the details are terrrific,
as is the script, directing and sound.. Have fun...I did..
...It is in 2D, no extra charge..read the review..
