Toon Zone Talkback - "Rango" Brings Back the Oater in Rugged Style

I really like this movie. But I, too, was shock of how edgy and grim the movie was. There were no cute and cuddly characters, and the actual furred ones are all gritty. Heck, one of them had an arrow stuck IN HIS HEAD!

That may be the problem for some. It's funny, but some visual content was certainly not for kids!
 
Well, we gripe about animation only being geared towards that set, but this basically made me feel how I did when I saw Roger Rabbit and Shrek for the first time. Hard PG material, but back in the 80s, they wouldn't have flinched at releasing this with kids in mind.
 
I really enjoyed this movie. I think it might end up being one of my new favorite movies of the decade. But yeah, i wouldnt take younger kids into this cuz, if i saw this as a toddler, i would be having night terrors!

So go see it!:D
 
I saw the movie as well, and I thought Rango was being a big ham at the beginning. I hope Nickelodeon has more upcoming big screen movies. Rattlesnake Jake is the exact reason why I hate snakes. Beans was really tough, and I like her survival mechanism. Ned Beatty plays the part of the innocent yet devious character really well (first Lotso now Mayor Tortoise John). He had a great scheme: dry up the land, make the townsfolk sell cheap; and flow the river to make a bustling town to make a profit out of it. This movie really brought back the Old West.
 
This sounds like my kind of animation movie!
I like movies that add a little humor in for adults too, I think it keeps everyone happy.

I will be watching this one soon!
 
Kudo's for Bean not being a stereotypical tough girl who whines about how women are being oppressed. She was a girl who took action with her two hands instead of standing with her mouth.

I liked that Rango was cast as his own actor that added quite a bit of depth to his deception.

The voice work in this film was absolutely phenomenal as well.

Grants I think a bit of the humor was out of place on certain points, but it was sound for the most part.

I think this film started very awkward in the beginning and went gold by the end.
 
LOVED how this movie vastly exceeded my expectations in nearly every department. I hope Rango continues to dominate the box office.

Or rather, I should "believe" it will.
 
This was so fantastic. I am so happy that the movie ended up as great as it did because I had some good hopes for it from the trailer.

God, the owls cracked me up in every scene they were in.
 
When I saw the trailers, I got excited, but then I told myself that it would probably end up trying too hard or getting overhyped. Really glad to see such good reviews of this movie, but I think I'll stop reading about it until I see it, to save my experience for later.
 
Methinks Sparkster maybe they found it too suggestive perhaps?
I mean it's a lotion... for his gun. A gun usually has a long cylindrical barrel that shoots... well you get the general idea.
Plus I watched the scene and it was kinda superfluous at the end of the day. It's not something I sorely miss.

Anyway, watched the movie last night. MUCH better than I thought it would be. Originally I was wary at the beginning when Rango was being all crazy-like, but when he meets another particular Johnny Depp character then it starts getting immensely better.
 
Seen this yesterday, aaaaaand...

Loved it; absolutely loved it. After seeing it, I immediately thought to myself "We need more animated movies like this". It was funny, charming, visually impressive, and the voice acting was top-notch (Johnny Depp did such a fantastic job, and the supporting cast was great as well).

It's funny how this was essentially being marketed as a kids movie, though, when, for all intents and purposes, it really wasn't. Sure, it had moments of cartoon violence that kids would like and what not, but the language definitely wasn't what one may refer to as "kid-friendly" (and, neither was the amount of gunfire, for that matter). Especially Rattlesnake Jake; he was one nasty SOB, and the amount of times he threatened to "send someone down to hell" was sure to raise a few eyebrows. In fact, there was a woman sitting in the row in front of me with her young three kids; I wonder what she thought of this movie. :p

Again though, I loved it. I love animated movies that don't adhere to stereotypes, and cater directly (or even "only") to children, with only a few scattered moments of enjoyment for adults. It's nice to see an older-skewing animated movie like this. Quite enjoyable, to say the least.

Well I did. I just got back about an hour ago. The movie was just....

Well, looks like my words failed me this time. To state that this is a kids film is kind of a lie. There are some obvious traits (All-Star cast, toilet humor, stuff like that), and yet, it works so well to appeal to both the kid and adult audiences.

I'm actually surprised that ILM hasn't done more CG animated films ("Work in Progress" was a short and Wall-E was Pixar as we all know. ILM just did the live action shots). Heck, there were some shots in which I thought they shot in live action even.

In short- see this movie, but please make sure your little ones don't wet themselves after the movie.
 
I saw it today. I thought it was good but I personally wouldn't go as far as saying it was great. I am kind of surprised that it was made by Nickelodeon. It seemed too adult oriented to be from Nick to me.
