Toon Zone Talkback - Partial Season Sets For "Clannad" and "Princess Resurrection"

According to ANN, it seems that ADV will be following FUNimation's trend of having the animes being released in part season boxed sets.

Here's more;

Cool beans. I may get the second one since I for some reason never finished Clannad even though I liked it and wanted to.

I hope they get After Story.

AWESOME!!

Can't wait to get CLANNAD, and I hope ADV does a good job with the dub

I would buy Princess Resurrection , but sadly it was butchered and they cut all the gore out of the anime version, the only good thing about Princess Resurrection was the fact that it had DRAGONBALL sound effects

Oh goody! Clannad def neeRAB a half-series set to go through, since it's slice-of-life. Well then again, anything half-season in one sitting's good.

I do hope they learn from Kanon (They did the dub for 2006 ver., right?)

Well, it's nice to see that companies are realizing that retailers and fans have basically no use for the single DVD release any more. Too much shelf space and money for otaku and Best Buy.

Besides, the try-before-you-buy aspect of the single disc release just doesn't hold when so many, many companies now are providing various legal options to just that (single episodes on iTunes, official streaming of episodes through various online services.)

This is the talkback thread for Partial Season Sets For "Clannad" and "Princess Resurrection".

This is definitely good news, and it's great that ADV is getting into this release strategy like FUNi.

With Funimation's helding off some of the staff, and cancelling the podcast, ADV is suddenly feeling pretty good.

Wow, how the world turns...

I may actually get Clannad for this.

That would explain the low price. I'm sure ADV doesn't have the resources to sell a partial season, bilingual set like FUNi does, but it's still disappointing that we'll get no dub.

But, as they said, it's an experiment to see how it sells, so we shouldn't assume that they'll do this for every new anime property they license.

EDIT: Oddly, Indian Summer gets a dub but these two don't. But then, it's easier and less costly to dub a three episode OAV as opposed to a 24/26 episode series...

Well, ADV's gotta reboot somewhere. At least it's a reboot, not a complete implosion. To think they are basically operating at level that's maybe even below where Media Blasters is at is kind of shocking though. They went from the biggest in the industry to B(maybe C)-level in under half-a-decade. It's proof that in no way is Funimation secure just because they are the biggest player at the moment, and hopefully they can look at what happened at ADV and avoid repeating the same mistakes.

I hope that things get restarted in Houston. ADV employed and still employs a nuraber of class act people who helped make anime so household it became a word in the dictionary. I hope it enRAB up more like Bandai's rebirth than Central Park Media's hibernation.

Ah darn, I was coming here hoping that Clannad thing would be changed, and that the disk would magically become a Hybrid

I loved watch AIR in English, and Kanon was amusing too.
I am sitting here wonder WHY Clannad is not being dubbed to English, I can just picture the perfect voices.

ADV is pretty brave when they license, they go for things no other company would. And going Visual Key is very different.

You think of Bandai got Clannad, there would be a eng dub/

So they're going to be sub-only sets, well I kinda saw this coming and as you guys know I really don't have a preference for how I watch anime, well at least Koharu Biyori's dub will be enjoyable, I loved every minute of it that OVA!!

RightStuf made a mistake with that solicit, it is sub only.

I'm sad that these releases are sub only because I love ADV dubs so much.

But I will buy all of these anyway as I have come to slowly enjoy subs more. I still prefer dubs but a good story is a good story and Clannad is a great story! I can't wait to buy these.

i will preorder all of these new releases next month.

You're kidding.

It's been a long time since I've heard ADV VA's, and now you're telling me that even Indian Summer won't even get a dub release.

I just wanna hear people such as Melissa Davis, Chris Patton and Hilary Haag again!

They should at least go Funimation, I don't these VA's to extinct and gone!

Sorry, but I'm just really worried about people like them.
