Toon Zone Talkback - Otakon 2009: Funimation Acquires 3 New Properties

Lance, we need an upload of that trailer. On YT. In HD. Stat!

Absolutely beautifiul, although Mr. Sabat's changes his Vegeta voice for...a third time? My oh my, just use your natural one already!

Absolutely beautiful Adam, Lance, Rojas. Absolutely.

I'm not going to get into this conversation. There's no point and it's just becoming an off topic duel.

The DragonBoxes are coming. I'm going to buy them. I hope FUNimation doesn't screw this up. That's all there is to be said...

So your going to stop it there, fine. It was getting off topic anyways.

Yeah, I might get the DragonBall Box too. But...I pretty much seen the whole series anyways, so I'll wait for the "DragonBall" Box instead. I haven't seen to much of "DragonBall" being talked around. The "DragonBall" need some love too.

I've been wanting a dubbed "Cha-La" and "We Gotta Power" ever since I first watched the Japanese version of the show.

Please, FUNi. You're doing this much to appease the fans. Go one lil' step further.

*While VERY STRONGLY resisting the urge to go on a profanity ladened ALL CAPS rant*

I will only get this if

1. Cha-La (Dubbed or Original doesn't matter) is used in the dub and not the Mark Mensa song that was on all the sets.

2. ALL insert songs are restored, including the choir song that was cut from
Piccolo's death

Spoiler tags are probably unnecessary but just in case

Now if you'll excuse me I have more walls to destroy and F Borabs to throw.

I'm not going to bother buying the Dragon Box unless they rewrite the script to actually be accurate to the original and re-record ALL of the dialog to match it. I'm tired of Funimation refusing to do that.

Well certainly I have my own bias but I co-exist just fine with people who actually like 4kiRAB dub scores.

It's not really nostalgia as I've watched Dragonball Z in recently (got an orange box afterall) and still generally prefer not to watch it subbed or with the Japanese music.

But I think you're putting too much emphasis on the plausibility of adding another audio track would ruin the quality. There is potential for that and I don't keep up with the technical aspects of DVRAB but with modern technology I'm sure they could make that work without hurting the product. But it doesn't matter to me terribly if they do it or not.

And you're also too focused on uniting a fanbase that doesn't care to be united. That's just how it is with Dragonball Z and there's really nothing wrong with it. As long as everyone respects that we all like to watch it one way or another then it's fine. The only problem is when people act up claiming their version is indefinently superior but I mostly see that from fans of the Japanese version. Production wise, it is a much better put together product but people will still have their preferences. If you eliminate one audio track you'll still have a devided fanbase just as much as always.

Out of character? I don't know about that. I've compared the manga both fan translated and officially translated to FUNimation's dub and haven't found many moments that were out of character. And if that has more to do with the voices... I think they're generally fine. Some are great and some are awful but most are just okay. And I feel the same about the Japanese VAs cause I like quite a few of them but not all of them.

Woo, and I just got into EotE. So perfect timing indeed, since it seems to be a series I may wish to get my hanRAB on in DVD format from what I've watched.

Well, to take a break from all the DBZ stuff, I'll run down what I know from the episode I watched of the Sgt. Frog premier:

*Todd Haberkorn, who presumably voiced Kululu in the test dub, now voices Keroro in the final dub. It's pretty surreal for one who did watch the test dub first, because he used the exact same voice he used for Kululu, and I thought at first Kululu was starting the episode for some reason. Stranger still, it actually worked, but that's IMO.

*Natsumi gets a good voice this time, though I don't know who she was. I can't remeraber who voiced Fuyuki and mom, either.

*Tamama and Giroro are Brina Pelencia and Chris Sabat, the same as the test dub. No Kululu yet I assume, so now I'm curious as to who will voice him when the time comes.

*To me, the comedy seemed pretty much like a milder Bobobo/Duel Master dub, with an occasional squeezed-in joke, but nothing too out there from what I saw.

I'll pass on the Dragon Box. I just finished the season sets and have no desire to ever buy the series again as long as it does not have Kai in its title.

I'm durabfounded and speechless.

I never thought this day would come, and yet, I did. I knew that, if I waited years and years and years, through uncut set, and ultimate uncut set, and definitive uncut remastered set, that someday...SOMEDAY they would bring Dragon Box over here.

And they are.

And judging by their promo, they know exactly who they're targeting this towarRAB. Everyone who spent a fortune on importing a Dragon Box and soldiered through it without subtitles are going to be pounding the walls now. We're getting everything divided into seven sets with subtitles and apparently everything the Japanese got.

I've been waiting a long time for this. And I will buy every one. And if they release the Dragon Ball Dragon Box sets, I'll get that as well.

THANK YOU FUNIMATION!!!!!!

It would be REALLY cool if you also redubbed DBZ from the ground up for these sets, but I know that's asking a bit much. A faithful dub much like what you do for One Piece or Fullmetal Alchemist with dubbed songs would be cool.

While I wish that as well, I don't see it happening. I just hope for dubbed Openings and Endings with this boxset. It would be sweet to hear an English "Cha-La" and "Zenkai Power" for example.

Oh well firecrouch said that whenever FUNimation get's DBK, they would do a straight dub of it.

That Dragon Box sounRAB like a great deal to me. I've held off buying any DVD sets for years because they seemed expensive and Funi kept rereleasing them over and over again, claiming each one was definitive. Now I'll just get this and ignore any Kai related releases.

As for Eden of the East, good to see it come stateside. I've heard so much positive word of mouth about this series, I may actually make it a blind purchase.
