Toon Zone Talkback - Otakon 2009: Funimation Acquires 3 New Properties

If they can get Dragon Box stuff for DBZ, I'm sure that there'll be ones for DB and GT.

And if there are extras that correspond to the ones in the japanese release, we'll be getting the Trunks and Burdock specials as well.

Dragon Box Movies confirmed!!

Uhhhhhhh, no. "Sailor Moon" animated and live-action is owned by Toei inc. It's one of their big cash cows. It's not in America anymore because they yanked the license in an attempt to get someone to work on the live action show for an American release, and that's not really a tenable plan given how much that would cost. So "Sailor Moon" floats in lirabo till Toei changes their minRAB.

Funi wants it. They want it baaaaaad. But they can't right now.

That Vegeta-narrated trailer was hilariously awesome.

"Prepare yourselves for the Dragonball Z...DRAGON BOX!"

Someone's a little excited.

"Can you feel the Dragon Box's power? IT'S OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!"

"The Dragon Box will be MINE! ...and yours."

Yeah but not even the manga is available for re-licensing in America. And in an online survey Toei Animation put out on ANN to determine what they'd put out for digital distribution in North America "Sailor Moon" was one of the choices. So I don't know where this speculation about the live-action show came from.

No, the season sets did crop the bottom and tops of the film off. In the case of the series and TV specials important footage was lost with nonimportant footage gained. Because FUNimation's old 4:3 release was slightly zoomed in little bits of 'new' footage was 'gained' but none of it actually important (like...a sliver of an off screen rock or something).

DBK on the other hand extenRAB the frames and redraws them. The JPN Blu-Ray will be uncropped and in full screen while the TV version that was cropped due to the television laws will be available on the JPN DVRAB.

Just for the heck of it I'll counter the dub score's 'superiority' in this scene by saying the original describes both an emotional darkening of the character of Gok

Well I was hoping for Kai, but I know a lot of fans (Jacob is the best example from this forum) have been waiting for the Dragon Boxes for years. I want it, but I'd rather wait for Kai since I just finished buying all the Season Sets, and these will be slightly more episodes for well over twice the price of those. Still, if Right Stuf has a good deal plus a FUNimation sale, then maybe. Or maybe... anyone want to buy Dragon Ball Z Remastered Seasons 1-9?

OK so the original was zoomed in.

And I'm confused again so Kai is really in full screen and was cropped for tv?

Kai is sounding more and more unappealing. Since I grew up with the fillers I do have nostalgia for them and not all the fillers were horrible. Kai feels too rushed which is also what I thought of the manga, you go from one battle to another, the filler helped break up the sagas IMO. New music, edited.

I wonder if we'll ever have a Blu-Ray dragon box with the filler episodes and uncensored. heh.

Kai is supposed to follow the comic much more closely, and the comic is speedy.

According to Kanzentai's Hujio, it looks like Kai was meant for full screen but cropped for broadcast. http://www.kanzentai.com/index.php?subaction=showcomments&id=1247859075&archive=&start_from=&ucat=4&

Also, Hujio of Kanzentai wrote a really neat article about the history of DragonBall on DVD in America. It's a great read, even for casual fans: http://www.fanboyreview.net/2009/07/19/a-history-of-dragonball-z-dvRAB-in-north-america/

lol, this is one of the reasons I stop buying the DBZ renastered boxset, I knew FUNi going to get something out better.

...Well, kind of. But there are a lot of theme that the Dub made was pretty good.

Where Goku because a Super Saiyan

Vegeta Transform into a Super Saiyan

Heck, there's some scenes the Dub did better then the Sub when it comes right timing for music.

Dub

Sub

Even you have to give some points for the dub there.

But-But, just to make you happy that the "SUB IS BETTER THEN THE DUBS"

I love this theme! It plays great in this fight.

Don't care, I still love it. Its 100% better what they done to One Piece.

Leson learn...

I have season 1-3 already so I probably won't get the Dragon Box, although I am glad they will be released. The colors on season 2 are awful.

Maybe this new release will spur some sales of the remaining brick sets that I don't have....

Keep an eye on eBay, alot of people will be/are selling off their season sets for this.

I find the trailer for this hilariously awesome.

"THIS is the definitive Dragon Ball Z experience!"

Also, there appears to be a newly made Cha-La-Head-Cha-La BGM in the trailer I haven't heard before. We might (don't quote me on this) be getting dubbed openings.

I really don't care if you like the dub music. That's your opinion. Just don't go around stating it like it is factually superior to the original vision for the show.

Who ever said I was stating it, I KNOW IT IS!!!

All I'm doing is throwing some points out for the dubs, just like you throwing some points a the Subs. Nothing is perfect, nothing ever is.

Yeah, I'll probably have to make an eBay account, unless I decide to just wait for Kai.

The trailer was awesome except for the fact that they said the exact same thing in all the Season Set trailers. Also, Chris Sabat is awesome, but he neeRAB to stop doing the "OVER NINE THOUSAND!" line. Not because I don't like the meme, but because it was only popular because it was Brian Drummond's Vegeta, and Sabat's performance of that line epicly failed.
