Toon Zone Talkback - No "Simpsons" Movie Sequel Yet, "Several Years" Left for Series

I don't think the Simpsons Movie needs a sequel. It was great, and I liked it, but it took a long time to make. The staff is still probably exhausted. And exhausted staff equals a less-than stellar movie.

I remember an episode where H. W. Bush moves next door to the family, but that must not have been actually him. I think Jimmy Carter might make a guest on the show. I've seen him on TV quite a bit. He was on the Daily Show; so the Simpsons isn't that big of a stretch.

Its a shame that Simpsons will probably go on for yet another decade. It just doesn't feel "right" anymore.

Simpsons hasn't been good since 1999-2000...which was Season 10 I believe. And even season 10 showed the start of the decline.

They said there was "several years left" several years ago.

The series should have ended after the movie. It's an impressive achievement on paper that the series has been on for 20 years. It's less impressive when you consider that the second half of those 20 years has been mostly more miss than hit.

If you hate the Simpsons so much just stop watching. I feel the Simpsons is doing it's best job scince season 10, and I will continue to support it. A second movie would be a nice way to close the series, but you knw somtjing? I don't see The Simpsons going past a 26th season at the most, just a gut feeling.

Care to explain? I definitely think season 7 and 8 are really strong seasons. I definitely consider them classics. Season 9 isn't that bad either.

For the record, last season was it for me. I'm done.

Season 8 was the last "excellent" season.

Season 9 was the last "great" season.

Season 10 was the last "good" season.

Seasons 11-20 are hit and miss. Simpsons had a good 10 years at least.

I thought so, too. The movie actually seemed like something in a series finale. After the movie, it's been real hit and miss, though I thought this past Sunday's episode was pretty funny.

Excellent news of course. The show has always had its share of hits and misses so aside from some animation changes, I don't think it's changed THAT much. If anything, the stories change to reflect what's going on in the real world and referencing it.

I'm hoping Morgan's documentary in January continues to show the support The Simpsons receives from people. I'd be even happier if they showed footage from the SDCC Simpsons (especially the last couple of minutes from the panel which was pretty cool to witness live).

I think someone on the show said their intent is to do a movie sequel, but after the series is done, since doing both the show and the movie at the same time was too much for them.

I figure at this point the damage has been done so some more years of mediocre Simpsons episodes won't make a difference to the legacy. And a second movie would be a nice way to cap it off. The first movie made a lot of money so I would expect a sequel eventually.

I could see them ending at 25 years, it's a nice round milestone and they've already set their records, which I think at that point will be far enough out of reach for any other series to touch them.

The only primetime scripted series currently running that's anywhere close to the Simpsons in length is Law and Order, and with its dismal ratings it's likely spending its last year on network television, so the threat of the Simpsons losing its length record will be gone.

I'm still annoyed we never got a DVD with all the cut footage from the movie. Talk about lame. The season sets have all kinds of effort put into them, but the movie didn't get any of that.

I think the Simpsons will go to season 25 and that's it. Make a movie there to cap it off.

I feel that the series already started slipping during season 8, if only very slightly. Season 3-7 had all been pretty much flawless, whereas most season 8 episodes tended to have just a few to many failed jokes. And season 9 is, in retrospective, a very odd mix of golden-age Simpsons and tarnished-age Simpsons.

BURY THIS STINKING CORPSE ALREADY!!! I know at this point it's impossible to leave with any dignity whatsoever (the surprisingly good Simpsons Movie was the last chance), but quit making it worse by dragging the show out endlessly. God, aren't TWENTY YEARS enough of any show?!

I am a long time Simpsons fan. However I wish it'd end, I don't like there treatment of Bart latley. What they could do is show Sideshow Bob as the main villain for the film. I don't know what else he could do by than though, hey'll have done every thing in his power to defeat Bart by that time.

Just my personal opinon.

Speaking of Bob, I never quite understood that one episode where Bob had changed and didn't want to kill Bart, saved Bart's life from his brother and then several episodes later, with no explaination whatsoever, went back to his "kill Bart" phase and has been ever since.

Actually, I thought The Simpsons Movie was a bit of a disappointment. Definitely better than any episode of the show in years, but not what i'd want from a Simpsons feature film. Hardly any Mr. Burns (we didn't even see Homer sleeping at work, or Bart annoying Mrs Krabapell at school! What!?) The dome thing was dumb, and so was the villain.

For a Simpsons movie sequel, we need more of the Nuclear Power Plant, Mr Burns and Smithers, Springfield Elementary and Principal Skinner. I don't want Bob as the villain because it's way overdone. I'd like him to have some role in the film, though. He's too great a character not to use.
