Toon Zone Talkback - New "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" Cartoon Series Being Cast

Didnt Resolute kill off 90% of the characters? Unless they use obscure characters like spearhead and zanzibar i think that it'll simply be a new show (hopefully with resolute's style and tone).

Off the top of my head, Bazooka and Major Bludd were dead from the start of the movie. And
Storm Shadow gets killed by Snake Eyes
But I don't remember there being any others, at least not off the top of my head.

Do you have the DVD of this yet? Sit through the end credits. Not something I like very much, but there it is.

Also:
Zartan gets one in the back of the head from Duke in the Russian missile silo.
They could probably undo that one, too, I suppose, but I hope not.

In any event, I'm also kind of hoping for a continuation of Resolute that will become a new action series on Adult Swim, but I'm not holding my breath. Hasbro does seem to be taking another swing at animated TV these days, but the fact is that they're a toymaker first and foremost, so unless they're going to start in on more adult-themed toys (the Sideshow 12" line doesn't count) I'd be surprised if it was a continuation of Resolute.

Ok, you're right that resolute didnt kill off THAT many characters, but they still killed off too many important ones. Maybe a prequel series to resolute? (I'd love to see them somehow adapt the story of how they took over Springfield in animated form).

I'm hoping for 'nothing like Resolute', myself, but I'm still living in the past. I'll take my lasers and parachutes and enjoy them. :)

Certainly sounds like they're working on something. If it's based off of The Rise of Cobra, I'll definitely tune it. But if it's Resolute, no thanks. I didn't like that at all. Granted, they could obviously accomplish more in 26 episodes, but I was underwhelmed by Resolute, from both the voice acting (seriously, only four voice actors for a cast of more than 15 characters!?) and the Anime-influenced look. And the serious tone felt really forced to me, like it was constantly trying to nudge the audience and say, "Hey, look at how serious we can be. Isn't it cool how serious we're being? Hey, watch this serious moment."

I enjoyed Resolute. I think that a G.I.Joe story should have a very serious feel to it. After all, they're at war. It's a very big part of why I didn't like Transformers:Animated. Anytime the characters are supposed to be at war, I think the story should have a serious nature. So stuff like G.I.Joe, Transformers, or Star Wars:The Clone Wars should really have a serious feel to it. Or at least in my opinion.

I think Resolute had potential, but was just trying way too hard to be "mature and serious." G.I. Joe just always came off as more of a big fantastical Bond-esque adventure than a serious war drama, though. (Even the comic book, with a slightly more serious approach, was still pretty over-the-top and stuff.) If I wanted a hard-hitting war movie, I'd watch something like Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down. With G.I. Joe, I just want something big, cool, and fun.

My favorite thing about Resolute was the updated look and designs, so if they made a show that looked like that and had action that was as good that would be 100% cool with me. I'd definitely like to see Joaquim Dos Santos involved. I'd have no problem with it being aimed at a Y7/PG audience or taking place in an all new continuity. If it's anything like the movie or a Sigma Six styled series, I'm skipping it. I also wouldn't want to see a series that's basically Rescue Heroes with ammo or something similar to TF Animated.

I'm pretty sure, Hasbro isn't interested in what I'd like to see though.

(Converted this thread to the talkback thread for the News.)

In the same podcast, Bell stated that he was also reading for a new Transformers cartoon as well. The Joe cartoon is new to me, but I did know about the new Transformers cartoon a little while ago from other sources that were off-the-record.

This sounds a whole lot like they're not bringing back Transformers Animated. Disappointing, but if they can bring the same magic to this one, all the better.

Wasn't this kind of suspected since Hasbro is taking over Discovery Kids? It's more of a question of what those shows will be like. Now not all of Discovery kids needs to be E/I but for the most part it will remain a mostly E/I based educational channel for kids even under Hasbro's guidence. So it depends on how they want to do this.

I don't think Smoov would be a good fit for a TF series. Most of his voices are exaggerations -- parody of the original actors' performances, and that includes his Prime which baffles me that so many fans praise his performance as a "spot-on Peter Cullen."

It makes me wonder how good those fans' memories are. Cullen sounded nothing like that in the original series or the '86 film.

It works for Smoov's TF comedy fan mash-ups as a spoof of Prime, but he doesn't sound anything like Cullen's Prime.

You beat me to it. It was announced that Hasbro will be putting out new JOE and TF cartoons when they relaunch the new DISCOVERY KIDS channel. These new series will most likely be aimed at the 6-11 and 9-14 age groups, and be rated TV-Y7.

If I were to hazard a guess, I think that the new JOE cartoon will be more like the recently revamped comic series. In terms of violent/action content, I think that this series will be a bloodless less violent version of Resolute. I expect to see non main and non essential supporting characters to die in this series. I also expect to see no name JOE and Cobra pilots dying when their planes are blown up.

I heard that the upcoming Transformers: The War for Cybertron videogame (which takes place millions of years in the past on Cybertron, and you can play as either the Autobots or Decepticons) is probably going to become official Transfomers canon by Hasbro.

Perhaps it might serve as something of a prequel to a new Transformers cartoon series?

I had a feeling we'd at least be getting a new G.I. Joe cartoon soon. I was talking to one of my friends about that the other day. I wonder if this means I'll have new shows to look forward to watching on Saturday mornings again. It all stops for me after December 26th.

I've some mixed feeling about a new Transformers toon. On the one hand it might be great in and of itself, but on the other hand I really feel Animated was shot down before it's time, and I'd really prefer a continuation of that series before starting again from scratch.

Agreed. I love Transformers, but the only good pieces of that franchise on television were "Animated" and "Beast Wars".

And ABrown, check out the episode "The Thrill of the Hunt" and then tell me the series didn't take war seriously.
