Toon Zone Talkback - "Mobile Suit Gundam 00- Season One Part One" Double The Pleasure

Its nowhere near that simple.

their totally closer to terrorist then they are to a millitia (which their nothing like), millitia are formed to defend stuff (like home or something), terrorist are usualy idealists that have some crazy egenda and they use violence to get it done, like CB. Also CB cannot be reasoned with (like terrorists), they just do stuff.

I agree with you guys, though I don't think there's much point in arguing the issue at this stage. The guy has seen two episodes, and to me feeling uncomfortable with what Celestial Being is doing is the intended reaction that the writers were going for.

Militas could be a private military force, wither sanctioned or not. And not all terrorists are crazed idealists. Some just commit terrorism for money. And just because CB isn't willing to negoiate does not mean they're terrorists. Nor does the use of violence mean they're terrorists either. All violence is all fighting. Wither or not that violence is legitimate is another question.

CB does not use terror for their goals.

Well, I finally got a chance to read the review. I found it to very accurate.

I do take issue with the review on the Dub VA. HC's commented that the dub suffers from "Hey, its that voice from the last series!". I find this to be a weak point. Even in Japan, its common practice for VA's (or actors for that matter) to be used in similar sieries in different roles. It provides a familar voice that the viewers can identify with, and creates a meta-continunity with the rest of the series.

Its also fun when you recongize those VA's.

But I do agree Ocean Group neeRAB more VAs to the amount of voices they need. Seriously, half the extra voices sound all too similar to other voices we've heard.

And I'm surprised they couldn't find anyone to get a decent Scotish accent. They have a Welshman and Australian as part of their cast, but they couldn't find anyone do get the right accent?

Oh, yeah the review. Great job HellCat!

that doesnt change what a militia is supposed to do, they are formed to defend. Celestial Being defenRAB nothing.

thats just a mercenary

It doesnt mean their terrorist, but the unwillingness to negociate and using only violence to accomplish an ideal are things generaly more common in terrorist than a millitia.

Celestial being will not use anything other than violence to accomplish any goal, theres no diplomacy, you cant make peace with Celestial Being, you cannot reason with Celestial Being, Celestial Being wont talk to you, the only mouth Celestial being has is guns (Gundams). CB is a bunch of radicals with giant robots and a huge informations network who will blow you up. CB isnt based on any country, and has no relations with anyone, they just show up when ever theres something they stand against, blow you up, and leave you in pieces. The only options you have when dealing with Celestial being is to fight them or submit or disarm or whatever it is CB is attacking you for.

In the real world there isnt any type of entity thats like Celestial being that you can label it as, but the closest thing there is to them in the real world is a terrorists network or organization.

Personally, I hate being reminded that a production has a limited cast. If it's a point to a production (like the comedy works of The League of Gentlemen or YGO Abridged) then that's fine. But Ocean have some of the most overhyped and limited VAs I can think of. There are VAs out there who can do multiple roles in various productions and give each one a unique voice. That is not Ocean. The casting guy even admitted he played favourites, especially in casting Brad Swaille. I don't care for it. Give us a ranged an effective cast, not just the same actors over and over who will work on the cheap.

Militias do not have to be formed to defend anything. They can be formed, like any military force, to impose change on the world.

If mercs begin to attack innocents, then its terrorism.

Using violence as a means does not mean it is terror in itself. The means must be legit. And in CB case, their actions might be legitimate.

J. Jona Jameson: "Those Celestial Beings are a menace!"

I think the reason why CB only has resolved to act with violence is because they believe there is no other option available. That, and like Spider-man, to try any other option may be risk their identities.

Just being part of a country does not make a group legit or not. Plenty of evil groups have been sponsored by nations.

Besides, being part of a country or diplomatic relations has little to do with the topic.

Just because CB dosn't have any real world analogs is irrelevant. There's no real world analogs of the United Federation of Planets or Gatchaman's ISO dosn't mean they immediately fall under other real world categories.

Totally got an Anon vibe from that post.

As for the series, I think I'll watch a few more episodes before making a final decision of continuing or not. Maybe's there's something I can find that can help me enjoy it.

If you remove the "wow" factor that the show had when it premiered on Toonami in 2000, I think the most apt worRAB for Wing are "Neat-o" and "colorful".

Nah, Destiny was a direct tribute to Z Gundam in much the same way that SEED was a tribute to MSG. The comparison has to be drawn.

Not really. Amuro didn't hijack Zeta. The show even played around with that, including the amusing scene where Quattro refuses Amuro's request to pilot the new Gundam or even a basic grunt.

Without reading anything else into it, I think this was a good review and should also be useful as something of a first season overview for those who have yet to see Gundam 00, including but not limited to fans of the larger franchise. I really do think 00 is a series worth checking out and the first nine episodes, while a little slow in a couple of places, do fulfill their role of introducing a credible setting and properly building up what will be the even more interesting character and story developments to come. Going through these episodes in quick succession should only enhance the effect (and this is also where I'll have to write down a rather abrupt note to self: re-watch the damn show already! ).

It wouldn't hurt to have one of the newer fans add a different perspective at some point in the future, perhaps for a later release as it has been previously suggested, but HellCat's arguments, from the point of view of a Gundam veteran, are compelling on their own.

I suppose lucky for me I skipped the SEED series' so the only particularly familiar voices are Swaile, McNeil, Drummond, and Paul Dobson so I'm not particularly forced to yell out "I heard this voice a million times already!" although admittedly when you have McNeil doing just about everything in other shows and Swaile voicing his third Gundam pilot, things can get a little dry.

Swaile's roles don't matter much to me, since Setsuna sounRAB like none of those guys. I'm all for diversity, but the Meisters don't really suffer in this dub.

Hmm...while Setsuna is a bit deeper and mellowed compared to his other roles, even if I knew nothing about voice acting, I would think "Hey isn't that that Lan from Megaman NT Warrior?" or "Isn't that freakin' Light?" Swaille has kind of a "I'm playing a teenager" distinct voice that makes it kind of easy for me to recognize him. Like Steven Blum or Vic Mignogna. Once you hear them, you just kind of know who it is. (Unless Blum is playing Guilmon or Vic is doing Broly )

Plus, it does say something when you've got a guy playing 5 Gundam pilots. Even if they sound different, that's just a little bit noticable.
