Toon Zone Talkback - "Megamind" Is a Mega-Disappointment

Much to my surprise I ended up enjoying Megamind. Even though trailers spoiled everything important, I still managed to find this entertaining because it had a good story with characters you really feel for.

I wouldn`t call it a bad movie at all. Not great, a bit better than mediocre, but definitely not bad. The charachters and the concept are the strongest points, IMO.

Well I didn't really like the movie either and it sort of follows the trend of dull, underwhelming, and mediocre efforts from Dreamworks Animation such as Shark Tale, Madagascar and Madagascar 2, and Monsters vs. Aliens. Though to play devil's advocate, I think Venture Bros. did the whole, Spider-man should shoot webs from his butt thing too though I felt it was funny and pretty clever.

Honestly, I was thrown off a bit with all the praise for Megamind after I finally caught in on theaters. I only got a mild positive reaction out of the movie. I am not disappointed as Ed is - though likely I don't read as much superhero comic books as he does - but I never did see the appeal on why everyone things it's super special awesome. It's a decent movie and I liked its emphasis on characters instead of a more standard "epic superhero tale of good vs. evil", but that's really about it. I like the movie, but I'm not in love with it. It's a definite step down after Kung Fu Panda and HTTYD, though I don't think it's nowhere near as atrocious as Shrek 3.
