This is the talkback thread for Media Blasters Licenses "Blade of the Immortal".

Can't say I've heard of this one. Though I'm a little miffed that rab's picking up series when they have one that still hasn't seen the light of day in R1 since it was licensed two years ago.
 
I'm hoping this has a dub. It's a fairly significant title, I hope it is deemed important enough to have a dub.

When this came out I was expecting this to get on Adult Swim. Now . . . I don't know anymore.
 
I guess you guys don't even touch the manga world. This is a very, very prominent manga series has been running in the U.S. for almost 10 years now (could be even more, I think I've been seeing it in comic stores ever since I graduated high school, and that was A LONG TIME AGO). And it's STILL NOT DONE yet! Samura neeRAB to really end it sometime.

To get an idea how long this series has been around, well, Blade was originally published in the U.S. in "pamphlet format". That's right, about 25-32 pages a month like in standard DC/Marvel form! Most of the kiRAB here might not even remeraber when most manga was released like that here.

Anyway, word is the anime isn't very good, both storywise or production wise so this is apparently not a "quality" pickup by rab. But Blade has its fans in the U.S.
 
I don't know if the anime is very good or not. I heard that it was Bee Train's intention to be faithful to the source material for once but I don't know if Bee Train remained true to their vow.
 
How can you compress 22+ volumes into 13 episodes? Even if you only adapt a few storylines you're still kinda screwed ultimately.

I do know for a fact though that the look of the anime doesn't even touch the look of the manga. Which is understandable, but the art is a large part of manga Blade's appeal.
 
Media Blasters are the experts at marketing niche series, so this seems right up their alley.

I do hope they dub it though.
 
It also rather irks me that Media Blasters is still sticking to the outdated singles model. They did this with Ah My Buddha (which will be released in SIX volumes), and they're doing it here too. I get the feeling when Dragon Destiny is finally released, they'll do singles for that too.
I'm not well-versed in manga, and don't read it, outside of a couple exceptions.
 
I would venture a guess that singles are the only way they'll make any money. These shows don't seem like the kind of thing that you can just throw in one boxset and call it a day.
 
I think as Funi has proven with some of there lesser known pick-ups, you get better distro by just boxing them as it's less shelf space committed for the retailers. There are certain shows I doubt they'd have been able to get onto shelves, especially during that Best Buy contraction if they hadn't gone to 12 episode minimums (stuff like Sasami would've been a dog in singles, and stuff like Strike Witches will only pay off because they can kick the show out in a single shot.)

I mean, yes, they may make a little more money in the first pass with singles (they may lose money too,) but they end up having to box things so quickly now why waste the money on the shipping and extra packaging.
