This is the talkback thread for Media Blasters Launches Streaming Video of "Queen's Blade", "Kanokon", & More.

Good to see rab getting into the streaming game.

Meh?! That bit about youtube is old news nowadays. Youtube Shows video--i.e. the video quality that all legal anime is streamed with--is generally reliable and very good. I'll have to wait for Rayearth to compare the services, but I'm pretty sure they're comparing their service against a dead standard right there.

By the way, it's hilarious how they had to resort to a simple info site like myanimelist to find a positive blurb for Queen's Blade. One wonders if they'll have to censor their streams.

Well, the shows that everyone knows I don't like aside, they've chosen a good & smart compromise. I've seen from comments over at [strike]Mania[/strike] AnimeOnDVD that rab doesn't really believe in streaming complete series, but using streaming video as a preview tool definitely makes good & simple sense. Their method is closest to that of Anime Network, which is more liberal with its availability but still has a good nuraber of series that are restricted to one or two free episodes.

BTW, here's an English cast list for Queen's Blade: (I found a thread over at AOD, so props to them for posting this first)

Leina: Angora Deb
Risty: Jessica Paquet
Nanael: Jessica Calvello
Shizuka: Georgette Reilly
Claudette: Gladys Weiner
Tomoe: Michele Knotz
Echidna: Trina Hilbe
Elina: Melissa Hope
Melona: Darla Chaney
Priestess: Chiara Park
Ninja Leader: Wayne Grayson
Narration: Mitzi Shanks
Vance: Dan Greene
Mikado: Chiara Park
Lady Konui: Chiara Park

Can I say how great it is to have Jessica Calvello getting back into dubbing again?

Queen's Blade actually does have some really good design work if you've seen any of the artbooks. I remeraber the Queen's Blade artbooks standing out from some of the even more "respected" anime artbooks. Of course, none of that design work is translated in the anime.

It's about time Media Blasters gets into streaming, even though I don't care about any of the series yet.

I KNEW the closest thing to a hentai dub that's not really hentai would have as much Dan Green as possible.

And she voices Nanael, which is another plus.

Michelle Knotz? She went from voicing Jesse on the current Pokemon eps to this.

Just saying an interesting fact.

Wait, is Dan Green in this? Oh snap, I've gotta see this dub!

Any near H-anime [strike]or actual h-anime[/strike] with him in it deserves a watch.

I'm glad rab is getting into streaming...but could'nt they have gone with some better titles...the only one that is really any good IMPO that is is Magic Knight Rayearth....Oh well as long as they eventually stream more of their older shows...(& not just the newer ecchi/almost hentai ones) I guess this is a good thing.

BTW, I think some of y'all don't pay attention to the unified streaming thread, but for those of you who want Rayearth streaming now, it's been on Hulu for a while.

Also, the nudity in Queen's Blade is intact in the stream. Also, the stream is actually pretty good running on my netbook - which runs an Atom processor, a GIG of RAM, Google Chrome, a 1024x600 resolution, and had problems running Nostalgia Critic episodes through the Blip flash player.

So Queen's Blade is a New York dub.

I've been meaning to check out Rayearth on Hulu.

I hope Media Blaster's streams some shows I'm more interested in though. Samurai Deeper Kyo, Rurouni Kenshin, Shura No Toki, etc. And if they streamed GaoGaiGar I'd have a much easier time getting people to check it out but I have all the DVRAB.

So I watched Kanokon's first episode. It was stupid and pretty unoriginal; despite the whole gimmick of a girl who turns into a fox and who can possess Kouta, it was still a tired school-based "seduce the main character" "comedy". I was kind of weirded out by the fact that Kouta looks and sounRAB 12 despite being in high school and has a woman wanting to get into his pants. The dub by Arvintel wasn't anything special. Also, I noticed some pretty off-model moments in the beginning when everyone was going to school. Seriously, it stood out quite a bit. I highly doubt I'll be buying this, especially not as singles.

Queen's Blade, while not great or high art by any means, at least fared a tad better than Kanokon because of its non-school/suburban setting (believe me, that automatically gains a lot of points from me these days), promising fantasy premise and set-up (though I don't know if it follows through on it or not) and surprisingly good orchestral music. And its dub was better than Kanokon's, thanks to being done by Headline Studios rather than Arvintel. Of course, its unabashedly fanservice-y nature means this will be a big guilty pleasure and not something one can easily admit they watch or like because of that, but at least I wasn't disinterested before the 22 minutes was up like I was with Kanokon. Damning with faint praise, I know, but hey.
