So I watched Kanokon's first episode. It was stupid and pretty unoriginal; despite the whole gimmick of a girl who turns into a fox and who can possess Kouta, it was still a tired school-based "seduce the main character" "comedy". I was kind of weirded out by the fact that Kouta looks and sounRAB 12 despite being in high school and has a woman wanting to get into his pants. The dub by Arvintel wasn't anything special. Also, I noticed some pretty off-model moments in the beginning when everyone was going to school. Seriously, it stood out quite a bit. I highly doubt I'll be buying this, especially not as singles.
Queen's Blade, while not great or high art by any means, at least fared a tad better than Kanokon because of its non-school/suburban setting (believe me, that automatically gains a lot of points from me these days), promising fantasy premise and set-up (though I don't know if it follows through on it or not) and surprisingly good orchestral music. And its dub was better than Kanokon's, thanks to being done by Headline Studios rather than Arvintel. Of course, its unabashedly fanservice-y nature means this will be a big guilty pleasure and not something one can easily admit they watch or like because of that, but at least I wasn't disinterested before the 22 minutes was up like I was with Kanokon. Damning with faint praise, I know, but hey.
