This is the talkback thread for "Lorax" to Become 3-D CGI Animated Feature Film.

I think sometimes, Hollywood titles some movies like William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream or Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter because they've screwed up the source material so much that if they didn't specify, audiences would completely fail to recognize that the movie was based on the original material.

Given that, the title of this movie being Dr. Seuss' The Lorax just writes its own punchline in my head.

Eh... I liked Horton, mostly because I just think the whole thing was beautiful. I could enjoy watching it with no sound. But The Lorax is a bit more moral-based, and I don't think I'd like to see a story like that ruined with pop-culture gags and such, no matter how pretty it looks.

This comes as a surprise to no one. I expected it sooner or later.

They can't butcher it any worse than they butchered the Grinch's. Besides, the book is already anvilicious anyway.

I'm more concerned on the ending which was pretty durn depressing. Though it had a somewhat message of hope, I can't help but think the ending of this CGI remake might end up with a much happier tone, which would go completely against the point of the book. Time will tell, I guess.

I never liked Cat in the Hat, the live action piece of garbage, not the classic cartoon.

Grinch was ok, but Jim Carrey didn't like wearing the Grinch makeup behind the scenes.

Horton was good, but Lorax shouldn't be turned into a CGI cluster mess. It's a dark tragic tale with a message about the environment.

Oh god.

THEY BETTER KEEP THE DOWNER ENDING!

It was bad enough Hollywood REMOVED THE MORAL from Little Shop of Horrors. If they dare touch the Lorax...

*gets out a knife*

Hmm...well, Horton was better than I thought it would be, so I'll give this one a chance. Considering they managed to pad that one rather well, I'm willing to at least see it. Still, I have to admit this could easily be botched.

I always thought they should make a movie based on the Sneetches. I'm sure a good story could come from that. It could involve a starless sneetch who falls in love with a female with a star, whose father doesn't want her to see him because he has no star.

That's not an adaption of The Sneetches. That's an adaption of Romeo and Juliet.

Personally, I'd love to see an EXTREMELY DARK PG-13 adaption of The Butter Battle Book. It could be directed by Tim Burton or some other gothic director.

How's this for irony: I once saw the Lorax on a gift card at Borders.

Between this new feature and the others that have come out in this last decade, I can't help but think that Audrey Geisel herself has become a kind of Once-ler (Whaddayaknow? More irony!).

I always feel a bit put off when they try to make a five-to-ten minute children's picture book into a ninety minute feature. There's too much of a chance that they'll pad it out with some awful stuff. Too bad they don't make shorts, featurettes or anthology pictures anymore.
