Toon Zone Talkback - "Lil' Bush" Episode 1: Lil' Rascals Gone Wrong

(Originally from another forum, so excuse my repeating of the obvious that has been brought up already)

The new Freak Show? Definitely. The problem with this show is that they are WAY too late in the game to be making an entire series based on the antics of The President. We got it in his first term: he's an idiot. General Bush jokes have been so overdone and are incredibly easy. They're only funny when it's something stupid that Bush has actually done, and it's not a continuous thing; it's funny once. Not to mention, a similar series began a long while before this one back on iLaugh.

So needless to say the show wasn't funny. The only thing that I laughed at was how Dick Cheney just mumbles, spurting out one or two words. Plus, it's confusing. It takes place in modern day, with the current world in Iraq, yet Bush Sr. is president. I'm usually able to ignore stuff like that in cartoons because, hey, it's a cartoon. But that really bugged me, I couldn't figure it out. The animation itself is pretty bad. It's very clunky and unappealing. None of the designs even seem to fit together, they're not consistent. I'm sure the general demographic is gonna eat this one up anyway...
 
As a political junkie, I can't help but laugh at this. There were enough unexpected twists above the completely expected Bush jokes that kept me engaged in the story. That said, a lot of it does feel old and tired. Having the Daily Show come on right after showed a rather stark comparison between sharp satire and easy satire coupled with some very... unnerving images. Barbara Bush and Lil' Cheney... ow my brain. That definitely came out of nowhere and was fair horrifying. Funny though, so I kept watching.

In short: this made me miss That's My Bush all over again, that had much better writing. They'll show the six they've made and that'll probably be the end of it, banished to the nether dimensions where every other non-South Park/Stewart/Colbert Comedy Central original show seems to go. Even if it pulled a Chappelle/Spade and came back for more, what would they do come January 2009?
