Toon Zone Talkback - "Lil' Bush" Episode 1: Lil' Rascals Gone Wrong

Good: The stuff with Lil' Dick Cheney was too over the top to not be funny, and having C. Rice being in love with Lil' Bush seems just so right giving their bizarre relationship of sorts in real life, that this seems almost ingenious.

Bad: BUT I am SO glad they did NOT use the dead Iraq kid as Bernie from "Weekend at Bernie's", but to have him killed by a literally mentally challenged child version of Jeb Bush was still pushing it, and is WAY less funny when watching the show than when reading the bizarre sentance I just wrote, which almost makes it sounds funny in a dark humor kind of way, but still felt a little too much for me.

The same for Lil' Cheney, who's supposedly a kid, having a sex with Mrs. Bush, but the following stuff with him stuck up inside her is hilarious. Its like they keep following totally wrong, even for a comedy sitcom cartoon, with something funny enough to balance it out, but its still a little too gross and leaves me feeling a little dirty. Hopefully they mellow out for the next episode, but I doubt it.
 
Maybe it's because I dislike the thought of Bush in office and have mocked him a lot personally but I'm going to go against what most people have said/are saying about this series and say I liked it. Yeah okay it used the most obvious/brash political humor with stereotype parodies of Rebulican and Democrat figures and didn't really push any mature boundries or anything, but I was chuckling throughout, from Bush and co easily getting into the army, the montage in Iraq, Little Cheney ending up in Mrs. Bush, Lil George wanting to be a sinner and "To turn face with the votes let's burn this place down". I would watch another ep of this at least so I would say it's a pretty funny ep that dosen't pretend it's anything better then it is: A cheap little satire.
 
Good review about a bad show. I watched and it was just dumb and unfunny. I will not be watching again. Following "That's My Bush" I'd say that speficially targeted political satire in the half-hour format doesn't work. At least these two shows can't seem to do it. And like him or hate him, making fun of George W. Bush can be very funny.

I do want to comment that even though Bush Senior is President, things seem to be set in modern times.
 
Even if this WAS a good show, it would be too dated to continue within two years. It has Rumsfeld and that already makes it dated.

Does Comedy Central ever want to have another South Park again, or do they just want cheap forgettable shows over and over? If I were in charge I'd look for someone who could create another classic with staying power. There's an obvious difference in income here. They still make stuff with Cartman on it after ten years.
 
I didn't see the revamped show, but I did watch three of the cell phone cartoons thanks to Comedy Central On Demand. Few of the jokes were funny, but I must say that I loved the image songs that were played. Those are actually worth tuning in for if they're kept.
 
Didn't like the first short much, but the second one got a few good laughs out of me. Ironically, it was the episode that didn't involve political topics, just the kids acting like kids and getting into crazy situations.
 
I hate Cheney. I hate him in real life, and I hate him in this cartoon.

And this wasn't really that good. The first short had some good jokes (the FOX News jab, Bush wanting to avoid serving, and the US turning Saddam's torture centers into super torture centers) but honestly, we already know that Bush is a terrorist who skipped out on his military time. The jokes have been done before. The second short was just entirely mediocre. The only thing I liked about it was that it established some of the other characters, like Lil' Clinton.

That's My Bush! was just a lot better overall. I liked the cast better there, too. I mean, Condoleeza Rice is horribly unfunny in here. Cheney isn't funny at all. Rumsfeld's only notability in this show is that Iggy Pop voiced him. The only real humor in Lil' Bush stems from George Bush. Karl Rove makes a much better straight man than Condoleeza Rice.
 
Cheney makes me laugh..basically a combination of Muttley and The Penguin from Batman. It's so stupid, but when he makes those squawking/mumbling noises coupled with a coherent phrase, I laughed.
 
Nothing spectacular. A lot of the jokes were predictable or just not funny. I did sort of like Lil' Clinton, though. Otherwise, I doubt this show will hold my interest.



That kinda threw me too.
 
I think it's a play on all those cartoons where they turn popular characters into baby or kid versions that are set in modern times, even though their original versions were living in past times, etc.
 
It's a horrible show, don't get me wrong, but I did laugh a few times and the plot with Cheney camping out in Mrs. Bush's innards was kind of unique. :/

Rummy isn't funny, and Condi is the worst one, but Bush sometimes said some alright things and Cheney was the typical 'non-speaking but energetic character' (as seen on Camp Lazlo, South Park, ect).

Also, I have to say that the animation is beyond putrid.

It's all right. I've seen a lot better presidental jabs like 2DTV, American Dad, Family Guy, Spitting Images, etc. Lil Condi is too serious in my opinion. Now Lil Bush, Cheney, Jeb, and Barbara had their moments in the episode. There'll probably be more characters as the show pans out. The Lil Bush will have its run between two months to eighteen months.
 
Actually, only 6 half hour shows have been made.

Lil' Bush won't go on for years. Most likely, it will finish it's 6 episode run on Comedy Central and then be done. Lil' Bush has all the trappings of a CC "quickie" (quickly gone and forgotten). Bush won't in office after next year, so there's only so long that this series can last.

Interestingly, I read on Wikipedia that The Venture Brothers was originally pitched to Comedy Central, but they turned it down. That strikes me as curious, considering the programs that CC accepted (Freakshow, Drawn Together, Kid Notorious).
 
I was sort of "on the fence" about this show.

I liked the internet shorts, so I was anxious to see how the show panned out in half-hour format. So, the definite thing they got down right was the parody that the frame embodies. The broad idea of the show is obviously a target on "Muppet Babies"-esque cartoons (which do deserve quite a ribbing), and the way the characters are set up (Bush Sr. is in office, but it's obviously 2007) as well as the episode format (a Saturday morning-like two episode split) are dead on. The overall cheeriness of the tone work effectively in this parody aspect.

Moving on to Li'l Bush's other, more obvious target...things go a bit downhill. It's good to see that the writers are trying to stretch beyond the Bush bashing and expanding it into a real show (as much as you can in twelve minutes), but too bad none of it is funny. Li'l Cheney and SOMETIMES Bush makes me crack up, but I'm not really crazy about Barbara and Bush Sr., and Li'l Condi isn't even funny at all. It does have its moments, though.

Besides that, what side is Li'l Bush on? In this show, it was taking targets on the Dems almost as much as the Republicans! The whole Li'l Hilary thing flipped me. So, I take this as a target on both sides, which I can easily get behind.

So, as you can see, I'm on the fence. I can only look positive and hope for something like the late, great Drawn Together (hey, I liked that show!), in which it improves drastically after the pilot episode...
