This is the talkback thread for "Kanon" Vol. 6: Snowy Memories.

Normally, we would not review Vol. 6 of a series without also reviewing Vols. 2-5. At the very least, we'd like a reviewer to have watched those. But when you depend upon the kindness of [strike]strangers[/strike] distributors for a lot of your discs, bad things can happen. The whole ADV thing kind of screwed us up with this series. Speedy Boris was very brave to agree to take Vol. 6 when FUNimation sent it to us.

Ouch. I do recommend going back and seeing the rest, as things are rather more fulfilling that way. The supernatural elements notwithstanding, I found the ending pretty uplifting. Everything kind of goes to hell toward the end, but ultimately the cast perseveres. Starting with Shiroi's plotline in volume 5, it seemed to me that Kanon took to telling a very life-affirming story.

To me Naiyuki's angle was the better one toward the very end since it came off as a very real situation with nothing out of the ordinary resolving the issue. Like Shiroi's story, it was rather serious. In Ayu's case, yeah, it is a bit strange.

Okay, so the Ayu we saw for most of the series was basically a ghost, except everyone was able to see her and interact with her...strange.

The thing is, the series does get into the spiritual side of things time and again well before the ending, and Ayu's story isn't even the strangest one.

Ultimately though Yuuchi's wit, the storytelling, the likable cast, and the awesome presentation are enough to get me through to the end of Kanon. In that regard it's pretty unique, as I dislike nearly every other show of this type. Kanon actually tells its story and avoiRAB a lot of boring cliches in the process. That, taken together with all the other qualities going in its favor, puts the series at a level above the rest.

Augh, I so want to ask questions about stuff but don't want too much spoiled for me. The paradox. Just answer me this, Batman: At what point do we last see Makoto?

Bump. Now that I have the complete collection (and a review will come to TZ), I've been filling in the gaps of what I haven't seen. All I can say about Makoto's story is, without giving too much away: So sad. And I stopped after episode 9 last night, so I'm really leaving myself on a cliffhanger until after work to see how that arc enRAB.

What is important, though, is how this arc has changed Yuichi.
Since Makoto's time is limited, and she's deteriorating in every department, he's much kinder and gentler to her and not prone to his usual sarcastic/rude remarks.

qft. both makoto and sayuri had some of the most strangest stories out of the bunch. Ayu's story wasn't that much better IMO. Actually, which one of the young girls' story actually had a happy ending again?

I mean it wasn't nearly as depressive as Air and the pacing is much much better in many respects but jeebs as I try to recall it, who had an actual happy ending?

Everyone except the fox, and even that's arguable on a level.

Mai and Saiyuri are recovered.

Naiyuki is ineffectual. They had to flip a coin between Ayu and Naiyuki for the ending, and they love their stunted growth girls.

Ayu is recovering.

Makato wasn't really human, and there's a baby fox somewhere.

naiyuki was a bit ineffectual...okay she was very ineffectual. I think as a viewer the point of the confusion lied betweem yuuichi meeting ayu and naiyuki virtually at the same time creating a situation like rurabling hearts. I am actually really glad that didn't happen but then again ... ugh its been a while I may rewatch this series again
