This is the talkback thread for "Kanon" Complete Collection: Amnesia, She Wrote.

Ah, finally I got to see the whole thing.

Kanon's not that dark. It's like trying to compare it to Air, and I'm getting tired of that.

In fact, the series doesn't get any dark themes until the final episodes.

I can see where Boris is coming from. Kanon is built into arcs, and each arc enRAB with something melodramatic.

Kyoani hasn't mastered smooth transitions from each arc until Clannad, which I feel is my biggest beef with the show. It's like "Ooh, her arc is coming up! Let's stick this girl in the fridge."

...So wait a minute, the "only one" who gets any sort of real romantic development is Shiori?
Even though Yuichi makes it clear several times that he loves Ayu, and the two of them actually became a couple in episode 20, which was kinda the main source of the drama in the last arc? (Well, that and Akiko's accident.)
Doesn't really make sense to me...

Anyway, I'm glad FUNi decided to re-release this show, as I missed out on the ADV-release, but I do have some complaints about how they did things... For starters, the packaging is awful, (like the review mentions, the disc-holders often break BEFORE YOU EVEN OPEN THE CASE) and the complete and utter lack of any extras, not even creditless openings and endings, (The ending looks TERRIBLE with the scrolling credits ADV added to it...) annoys me. Well, at least the video-quality is good, and apart from a few lines in the first couple of episodes where I got the feeling that a part of the text had been cut off, the subtitles were pretty good. And the show itself is still every bit as good as I remerabered it being.
