Toon Zone Talkback - Hulu.com and Joost.com Now Offering Free Streaming Anime

Huh...seems like all the Viz shows are on the Toonami Jetstream channel/category at Joost. Samurai Jack is on there too.

Is anyone else having problems with Joost? I tried installing the Joost plug-in and the videos still won't load.
 
Not anime, but related. Hulu also has the Japanese tokustatsu series "Johnny Socko and His Flying Robot" (originally known as "Giant Robo" in Japan). Unfortunately, they only have the first 10 episodes (which means that although the entire series was dubbed when it weas broadcast in the U.S. back in the 1960s, they can't upload any more because those are all the episodes they have).

Incidentally Daxdiv, I didn't see any One Piece episodes on FUNi's YouTube page...unless they took them down? :confused"
 
Oh wow... All these Viz shows being added to other streaming sites. It makes you think Jetstream's time is coming soon... but a Toonami Jetstream section? Well that's interesting. But it's nice to see them streaming on other sites reguardless. Now how about some Prince of Tennis, Bo-Bobo and ONE PIECE?

Anime definently has a future with legal streams if they're offering shows like Naruto, Death Note and Bleach.
 
Sweet. Nice that they're offering both subbed and dubbed episodes. I wish all the shows had a sub/dub option instead of some shows being subtitle only and some being dub only, but oh well, can't have everything I guess.

I've never heard of Hulu or Joost. Are they pretty much the same as YouTube? Are they worse/better?
 
Hulu's better I never used Joost but I think it would too. They are not for inpendent videos like You tube (At least that's what it's purpose was suppose to be) but for TV shows and movies with the permission of companies. because they are made for higher quaility videos their quality is naturally better.
 
Awesome. This is a great first step toward the future of anime distribution. A lot of people have been wanting something like this, so it's great to see it expanding. Hopefully this will be successful so we'll see more growth.
 
It's what I do. I don't have cable, but with all the legal streams out there it doesn't bother me that much. I watch TDI on Cartoon Network's Video site, Colbert and the Daily Show on Hulu and Conan on NBC's site, plus various other cartoons and shows that are available when I feel like it. There are a couple of holdouts, like The Soup, but if you really want them you can get most of them on iTunes.

I much prefer the seeming rise of legal, free streaming. It doesn't have that icky feel or low quality that getting the stuff illegally sometimes has. And although there are unskippable aRAB they are usually pretty short. I would prefer that company's not so agressively region lock their content, though. I tried to check out some world cable networks but a lot of the shows were blocked.
 
Can't be too sure. I mean, as much as I enjoy computer time, it would be hard to relax on your bed/couch while watching something on a computer as opposed to watching something on TV.

I think the main reason (but I could be wrong) that online sites are getting more television viewers is because networks focus too much on over running their favorite ratings grabber than having a heavy nuraber of shows on the channel whereas online you get many shows unseen in this country or heck haven't seen basic cable airings in a long time. Now if network heaRAB were willing to swallow their pride and add more programs to the network, they would have more people viewing the network.
 
If VIZ is putting all their Jetstream shows on Joost, I'd say that's a pretty good indication that Toonami Jetstream is good as gone.

I like that we have two competing anime-streaming services. In the end, the anime fans are the ones who will win.



Mmm, I rather enjoy watching shows on my computer. Put on a vid, set it to full screen, set it on a table, kick back and enjoy. That's just me, though.
 
Yeah I like watching T.V. the most, followed by DVD's, then the internet. There's just something about tv that makes it better, maybe the fact that you know there are other people around the country watching the same thing? Or the fact that you don't really have any control over it so you can sit back and relax. I dunno, but I still think that this is a great idea that will work. I will definitely be part of the fun, hopefully they add PoT and OP premieres....
 
To everyone making "Jetstream is Dead" remarks (or variations thereof):

Jetstream isn't going anywhere. Joost is a VOD provider of material from various providers. For some of them, you can actually "cut the middleman" and go straight to the horses's mouth. IMPO, you're better off going to Jetstream itself.

At any rate, I really think it's too soon to start speculating on Jetstream's future anyway.

Going back to Hulu, I too would like to see Toei on Demand's offerings on the service; someone mentioned it before (DRM-encoded direct downloaRAB to my hard drive aren't my style; besides, I need the space for other things). I personally would be willing to give Pretty Cure a try.
 
Well actually now that I think about it... a Toonami Jetstream section seems like more of an indication that Jetstream is going to last rather than indication that it's on it's way out. I think they're using Joost to reshow older episodes of the Jetstream shows. I mean it's not like AS Video is in any danger when Joost has an AS channel of videos.

This proves Toonami Jetstream is a strong enough brand to expand beyond the streaming site into other venues. Who knows... maybe a VOD Toonami Jetstream on digital cable isn't too far behind.
 
You know when it comes to what they offer joost seems more impressive especially when it comes to old school shows, especially animation. A G.i Joe page, a transformers page, a He-Man page (Ok he does not get his own) at it already provided anime. Of course Hulu has Exosquad.

Oh sorry about that.
 
I downloaded the Joost player and, oddly, all the videos come up with an error message despite that...

Guess I'll try Hulu instead (I wanted to mainly watch Zatch Bell, but oh well)...
