Toon Zone Talkback - Group Urges Ad Boycott of "JC"

humor comes at a price.
and someone else always pays for it.
and Christianity isnt just a religion.
its a "relationship".
yeah i know...only a few will get that.

I'm sorry, but that is just wrong. You don't have to offend someone to be funny and clever - in fact, humor that is hilarious without being offensive is probably more clever than humor that is offensive. Anyone can make a joke about God, Christianity, or what not (you just proved that yourself), but it takes great talent to come up with jokes that are funny without offending people.

Unfortunately, it seems that for the most part, Comedy Central doesn't understand that.

Good job. I was waiting for someone to catch that.

Thats basically what Bill Cosby has claimed many times in the past.
Said he missed the days when humor wasn't so focused on insulting another person.

I'm sort of an oddball when it comes to what offends me. I'm a practicing christian but a lot of jokes on religion or just chrisitianity don't tend to offend me. If it ever does feel like it crosses a line, I switch the channel. I'm probably less likely to be offended if it's something I actually find funny. I don't have a lot of faith in Comedy Central's animated efforts though. Just reading the premise for this makes me feel like it will be more in line with Lil' Bush than one of their few shows that actually work. I'm probably more offended that they're greenlighting tripe than anything. On the other hand, I do like that Comedy Central seems to always be open to more animation while I also think that CC is pretty hypocritcal. These people have a right to boycott if they want but it does feel like it might bring more attention to a show that might not deserve it.

I'm more offended that CC actually greenlights ideas that sound like they were conceived from a bad joke while many other cartoons that have potential of being good get shot down for reasons like "Not interested in a female lead" or "Currently don't wish to produce shows based on sci-fi" or something.

I don't think these guys understand how boycotts work. A boycott is effective if you would otherwise be giving your money or patronage to some company, but you willfully refuse in order to take a stand against something bad they're doing. Any advertisers who agree with the stance to boycott the show would presumably not be giving it their business anyway. It's moot.

It would make more sense to urge Christians to stop supporting Comedy Central in general, rather than saying "if you agree that this one show is bad, don't support this one show." But even that would probably be useless because this is Comedy Central we're talking about. And generally speaking, the kind of Christian who regularly watches Comedy Central probably also isn't horrified by the concept of a show that pokes fun at Jesus.
