Toon Zone Talkback - George Lucas Says 100 Episodes of "Clone Wars" in 2008

I'm fine with Clone Wars as long as the stories are well produced.

As someone who's trying to work into the TV/film industry right now, I'm amused (and somewhat envious) that Lucas has the backing to take any idea and finance the entire series before it even gets sold to a network.

YAWN

Clone Wars again? Give it a rest, Lucas. I'm actually getting sick of clone troopers and Mace Windu, Anakin and Yoda leaping around with lightsabers like crazed acrobats. I think episodes 2 and 3 and the CN cartoon told us everything relevant about the clone wars. 100 episodes? Absolute overkill.

Looks like George Lucas saved some of the stuff Carrie Fisher used during the Christmas Special!

If that's true, it won't be ready till 2009. But that is actually a gewd idea, cause they could pretty much air it for a full year weekly without having to wait for new eps..

and if so, CN/Toonami will be blowing a big portion of their budget on this.., so i guess we'll be getting a lot of Jetstream then..

Lucas says it has to air after 9:00 pm and he doesnt want it on a kids network do to it being pg-13. I dont think it will air on Toonami but it could. I see Sci-fi channel being most likely.

But Sci-Fi Channel will only show six episodes at a time with a random hiatus of several months in between, then move it to Sundays if it should happen to be successful.

The only way to make 100 episodes by 2008 it to make them all with cheapo animation and stories that took two minutes to whip up.

Sounds like fantastic post Naruto material for Toonami but last we heard about negotiations Lucas was talking to Disney. Definently not Jetix if it's PG or PG+ but maybe ABC or even ABC Family (though they stay away from actoin).

Now as far as content goes... I doubt it's heavier than the more recent movies infact it's surely tamer than Episode III.

If it's PG it wont run on Jetix but ABC and ABC Family are definently possibilities.

He describes it as between "kiddie fair" and "adult" content but not either. Sounds perfect for Toonami but CN can't beat Disney to any show so... too bad.

WTF:confused: ? Why on Earth would they loosen Jetix's standards just to air an adult cartoon they like, when they could just simply air it on either ABC or ABC Family? Toon Disney/Jetix is a children's network and Lucas said he doesn't want it on a children's network, so I think Adult Swim is the best place to air it since it's more widely available and I don't have Toon Disney anymore, but I may not care if I don't anymore because of their poor scheduling practices.

George seems a bit baffled as to where it fits - since it's animated, but it's not for Kids specificially. But I highly doubt he'd take networks like Nick and Cartoon Network out of the running because they're 'kiddie networks'. I think he's trying to widen his audience with the medium a bit by pushing a more eastern sensibility to the series overall (wasn't that the whole point of creating the animation studio in Singapore as well?); and in doing so he's trying to reassure the general public that it's not a children's show.

He who flaunts the most money will indeed get this series - but I honestly cannot picture it winding up on Jetix, not by a long shot. Jim Hill ran that article about Disney being interested; but that doesn't mean they'll get it - and it seemed to me said article was more geared towards the live action series anyway. I'm sure it's apparent to all out the house of mouse that they wouldn't know what to do with a more mature animated property; regardless of the network they aired it on - but a sci-fi/drama series they can sell.

...with Lucas' ties to Cartoon Network; I'm sure they're at least in consideration as a possible destination, but I'm sure it'll come down to fat wallets in the end.

Networks in the running

-ABC/Disney(They can try, they probably have the best relationship, but they don't the means of a network to air it besides ABC, and they can't make another good show to pair it with)
-Fox/FX(Lucas made these movies with Fox, so they are probably also on good terms. Once again, Fox can't really air it, but FX would probably be a great place for it. FX has very edgy programming like It's Always Sunny in Philedelphia, The Shield, Rescue Me, and Damages, and i think Star Wars would fill the recent void of action shows since The Shield is ending and etc.)
-CN/TNT(CN has aired the Clone Wars Mini Series, a big help for it. However, Lucas wants it post 9.0 and not on a Kids Network, whether he considers Toonami suitable is beyond us. Otherwise, TNT might work since they have aired cartoons and also are at a void of action shows
Sci-Fi(I hope not)
-Sci-Fi/NBC(Correct Me if i'm wrong, but wasn'tt Star Wars the first thing Sci-Fi ever aired? Sci-Fi also has a history of airing animation like TNT, but now more so runs anime. Sci-Fi needs a hit with New Shows Painkiller Jane and Flash Gordon probably not comign back(Jane has already been canceleld, and Flash Gordon is not doing well in ratings and is an embarresment imo), and battlestar galatica is ending.)

I think it'll go to FX, CN, or Sci-Fi in that order

Company with the fattest wallet oughtta be anyone but CN, But i think i might have to give it to Fox, since they bought Dow Jones and got qquite a bit of money from those Star Wars Movies(And they haven't had a blockbuster fail in awhile)
