Toon Zone Talkback - "G.I. Joe: Renegades" Pre-Release Discussion Thread

Hopefully, it's to give the shows proper launches. Two flagship shows on a fledgling network should garner better fanfare than we've seen at this point, which was pretty much none.

Because it takes time to make a new network and decent budget TV shows from scratch?

Also the fact that they probably want all 26 episodes ready at once probably has something to do with it. These shows are going on weekdays, after all, and they're not about to pad weekday afternoon kid's show slots with the '80s shows while we're waiting. :p

Hee, this is really getting to you, isn't it?

I don't appreciate the condescending.

Just saying, it'd be nice to hear what exactly happened and why they haven't been marketing the shows either.

I would hope so as well. It was rather frightening to me that they were doing absolutely nothing to promote and market these shows beforehand. After Comic Con pretty much everything stopped. And no one seemed to question it. Stickers on toys about going to an empty Hub website is not good marketing.

Sorry man, it was just kind of funny to see you squirm, especially since the delay's been public knowledge for about three to four months now.

Like I said, Hasbro's never done this before. Not everything's going to be released exactly to sync, plenty of things haven't before, plenty of things won't be in the future. They also have a third move to worry about, and making sure interest stays high while they get their TV show ready. They're certainly not perfect, they've had their bumps before, and this'll be a bumpy ride until they get into a rhythm. We just gotta ride it out.

I'm sure we'll all laugh about this in 2015 when the show's on its fourth season and we look back at how people worried that the show wasn't being promoted heavily in the beginning, mark my words. :p

Not sure when that became common public knowledge. My sources said 10.10.10. Hiss Tank said October 10. The earlier schedule that was released had Renegades on it.

Just saying when things like this happen its nice to hear from the people in charge explaining what happened and smoothing it over.

"Consider them marked."

This does give more time to properly promote and launch the series which was not really happening before. So I hope Hasbro and the Hub use this time wisely.

Yes they are out there. Check youtube and Google.

The only video clips out there though they are handheld ones from SDCC and some brief snippets in trailers for the Hub brand.

I can't say for certain yet. According to the character breakdowns, Destro is biding his to overthrow Cobra Commander in the series. And Baroness is basically the Cobra Industries PR exec and covers the tracks of all their nefarious dealings.

The character breakdowns also indicate a potential love triangle with Flint, Lady Jaye, and Duke.

EDIT, I can now confirm that Greg Johnson (Wolverine And The X-men, Thor: Tales of Asgard, Beast Wars) is on the writing staff for this series.

Saw this cool Promo Pic for G.I. Joe

cobra.png

having been a huge GI Joe fan since i was a kid, i was thrilled when i heard the hub (the new hasbro/discovery animated network that launched today, 10/10/10) would be rolling out a brand new 'toon called GI Joe: renegades!

I was even more thrilled when i received an e-mail from the hub's VP of creative services commissioning me to design a promotional propaganda poster featuring the show's mysterious cobra industries! i was instructed to keep it "subtly evil". hope that shows through in the final.

the poster has not yet been used, but if you happen to see it or any other materials in the near future urging you to join cobra industries, please think twice...those cats are eeeeeevil!

Not really but you can grab it from the link for the picture to the original site and see if he does.

Also i hope its ok that i did post the pic in the first place, if a mod thinks it should be removed for anyreason let me know.

That is some nice artwork right there.

I still want my straight up anime adaptation of the entire Hama run (even if it is ongoing, it's still a breezier read than most shounens) but in the interim, this seems like an interesting enough take.

More so than GI Joe Extreme anyway.

This looks like a good show, but if I see any inane garbage like say Ripcord/Scarlett, I might be done with the show already. Judging by the designs, the show has clearly taken some visual cues from the movie which is fine because its not the movies. They've taken some liberties of their own, IE Lady Jaye being latina, potential Duke/Jaye/Flint love triangle, the Joes being fugitives and on the run from a publicly benevolent Cobra organization. I just hope if Ripcord is going to be black like he was in the movies he's not one of those lame comic relief type of characters.

Ripcord is now black in the new comics as well, so I think that's the new status quo for the character. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing a new Ripcord action figure that reflected his new race as well. I thought he was OK in the G.I. Joe: Origins story he was in, but he was never one of my favorites anyway.

No idea what Larry Hama is going to do in the new ARAH comics, but that's a drifting a bit far off-topic.

Oh man if he's going to be as excruciating as he was in Rise of Cobra . . . oh boy. I think there are a bunch of other characters that could already fulfill that role like Heavy Duty or Tunnel Rat.

And here is Tunnel Rat's character description from the same site:

Oh boy . . . I can only imagine where they are going to go with this.

You're never going to replace the original, which is why they're showing classic Joe on the Hub. That being said, I can't say I care for Ripcord in the film or the Sigma 6 incarnation of Tunnel Rat. (The bashing 6 took when it was on was legendary)

As for the Hama comic, seeing as it's a direct continuation of the Marvel run I doubt they'll change the race. Still, you know people will be comparing Renegades to the newest issue of ARAH, a fate none of the other Joe series' had to endure after the original.
