Argh! I wish I could find these things in the store already. I already have most of the DVDs, but I'm dying to finally have my own (mini) M.A.S.S. Device. :D

And I agree with what Bill "Flint" Ratner said: "If G.I. Joe was really nothing more than a commercial like critics argued, I doubt it would still have so many fans twenty years later." :)
 
Man, this is the only way to get Joe DVD's anymore? With an action figure set? I'm not interested in collecting the show, but it's always unfortunate to see old school falling out of print.

Yeah, G.I. Joe was campy, but so was G1 Transformers and Thundercats and...well, let's stop there. Trust me, there were and have been far more insipid toy-driven shows. G.I. Joe plots will always be super ripe for parody, though.
 
You know, there's a thread at the entertainment board where people are fondly reminiscing about their favourite cereal ads... ;)
 
Well, packs #3 and #4 will obviously be 'Pyramid of Darkness' and 'Arise, Serpentor, Arise', obviously, but what will #5 be?

- G.I. Joe the uncut movie?

- G.I. Joe the Movie, that was cut up into five episodes for syndication? or

- Operation Dragonfly, the first 5 episode mini-series of the DIC season?
 
My local Targets seem to have the toy sets pretty regularly. If you still can't find them, I have bought lots of stuff from these guys on the Internet, although you'll be paying a small price premium ($22, vs. $20 at Target) and shipping costs, which will not be small because the boxes are big.

The MASS Device also seems wildly out of scale compared to the other figures, too.

Considering how talkative I can be about things that I like and why, it does bother me that I can't articulate why I still maintain so much affection for G.I. Joe despite the fact that the show was so bad and the comics really weren't a whole lot better. I really think it might be something like the love my brother-in-law has for Speed Racer. Deep down, he knows that's a badly animated, really supremely cheesy and dumb show, but his love for it knows no bounds and I think it's because of what the show COULD be rather than what it is. If it hits you at the right age, you fall in love with the show's potential rather than its reality.

Flint's voice actor is on to something, although it's also possible that these are just really really cool toys, too ;).



As Michael24 said, it's going to be a "Best of" collection of 5 episodes from the show.

I like to think that I'm on the fence whether I'm going to buy the other 3, but deep down, I think I know that's a lie :p.

Well, since I've already got the first three sets from Kid Rhino (The first two mini-series and Season 1), the only set that I'm interested in at all is the 'Arise, Serpentor, Arise' collection.
 
The first set may have more figures, but the second set includes Destro, Lady Jaye (complete with mutant vines :evil: ) and Roadblock, three of the Top 5 characters on the show (the other two being Cobra Commander himself and Shipwreck), so I'd say that set gets top billing out of sheer awesomeness.
