Toon Zone Talkback - "Futurama" Voice Cast *WILL* Return for New Episodes in 2010

EDIT: See Martianinvader's response on why there's nothing here.

Okay, now I hope comedians/comedy shows make fun of all this. This is just getting ridiculous now.

What is 20th Century Fox thinking? They think that it's too much to pay the regular VA's and it'll be cheaper to find new ones? Yeah right, they will spend all this money producing a show that is destined to fail without Billy West or Katey Sagal, I mean how many people are going to watch it? Fox let it die once due to low ratings, how long will it take Comedy Central to do the same?

It might not affect ratings that much (although if a recast is poor, I think there definitely will be an effect), but let's be honest here: it's not TV ratings alone that have kept Futurama afloat against all odds. It's DVD sales, and those depend heavily on the support of a relatively small group of hardcore fans.

Noone could replace Billy West as Fry, but now that you bring up Ren & Stimpy. Eric Bauza did a pretty dead on Stimpy on Adult Party Cartoon, the similarity was uncanny and I pretty much forgot it wasn't West, maybe he could do a damn near good Fry too?

Every rule has an exception, and to be fair KOTH does star a family. Just not wacky off the wall humor, and how that type of show stayed on the air for 12 years is a blessing.

These voices actors are the characters, they bring them to life and give them personality and quirks. Maybe its just the Futurama gang trolling for some free publicity, but if its not and they really walk away, that's just sad on both parts. And good luck finding new VAs if this falls through, no one's going to risk their friendships for a little bit of money.

I wish they at least waited a season before asking for more money; maybe then they would have been considered irreplacable and their demands would have been met.

So Simpsons is a shell of it's former self, everybody but me thinks Family Guy is crap, FOX couldn't care less about American Dad, King of the Hill has about 2 episodes left to air (despite not having a spot on the fall schedule to air them) and Futurama is continuing without any of the voice actors who made it great.

Way to go FOX. You rock!

One could consider the DVD movies to be a season unto themselves, since they were designed to be broken out into episodes for broadcast.

$75,000 per episode may sound like a lot to average Americans, and even for actors may be on the high side for cartoon voice work, but this show stands to be a ratings leader for Comedy Central, and one should ask how it compares with the salary paid to the actors in other Comedy Central series. The Futurama players' pay should at least be comparable to those on any other CC show going into its fifth or sixth season.

Well, I don't mean to bash the voice cast...but a ten-fold salary increase??? On a show that's lucky to get a second chance? (I'm not talking quality here, btw...I'm talking about the fact that once a show gets cancelled, whether it was good or not, it rarely returns). I think that's asking a bit much. Plus Futurama didn't get anywhere near as popular as the Simpsons, which is why that show's voice cast got paid the money they wanted.

This is a shock...I hope it all works out somehow...but I can't imagine anyone but Billy West doing Fry...or Farnsworth, for that matter. Bad news, everyone...:(

Really? I just didn't feel that Bauza came anything close to West's Stimpy. He could imitate a few of Stimpy's key phrases but he failed at extended dialog and actually acting as the character. Listen to the character commentaries in the second and third R&S DVD box sets. We get to hear Bauza's Stimpy at length here, and it's not a pleasant thing to listen to, IMHO.

To be fair, the Fox Network has nothing to do with this. The dispute involves 20th Century Fox, which is Fox's parent, but the Fox Network isn't, and hasn't been, involved with the show since it dropped it in 2003.

If worse comes to worse and all the VA's are replaced, I'll give the new season a try and see what its like.

If I no longer find it entertaining, I'll just pretend Futurama ended where it did and enjoy the movies.
