Well, that's too bad. If Fox does end up reviving the show, I hope the quality improves. Overall, it seems like these DTVs have been a disappointment.
 
I liked the movie, and I laughed a whole lot, but yeah, it didn't really feel as "epic" as it should have. There's less stuff happening and more characters standing around talking about stuff happening. And I have to admit, though I was happy to see the Fry/Leela romance thread finally resolved, it felt kinda rushed. I'm inclined to agree with what others have said - Bender's Big Score was the only movie that really felt like a movie; big, eventful, and high-energy, with a cohesive plot and very strong characterization.

You can tell the writers are anticipating a return to an episodic structure. It felt like they only had enough material for one movie and twelve more half-hour episodes. Now I really do wish "Futurama" would come back as a series, since it'd allow the writing team to return to their greatest strength. "Futurama" works best as a TV show anyway.
 
Well,it felt kinda anticlimactic for a potential series finale,but it was very funny,and it did give a bit of closure to the whole Fry/Leela relationship (and got Kif back with Amy :anime: ),even if it did feel tacked on as an afterthought....

Overall,Bender's Big Score was easily the best,since none of the other movies seemed as thought out (or as funny),but I liked Wild Green Yonder and Bender's Game alot,and even The Beast With A Billion Backs had its moments (mostly stuff involving Zoidberg and Zapp Brannigan)....

If this is where the series ends,I'd be happy....if they do end up continuing,I hope they keep up the overall quality/continuity of the previous episodes (and Bender's Big Score,Bender's Game,and Wild Green Yonder)...
 
I liked it more than Bender's Game.....I'd consider it second only to Bender's Big Score (I feel the creators really outdid themselves with that one)....
 
I would probably put Into the Wild Green Yonder a little bit below Bender's Game. There were more memorable laughs in Bender's Game, IMO. The best one was still easily Bender's Big Score, though.

EDIT: Oh, yeah, one other thing. I can't take screengrabs of Blu-ray discs, since Macs don't support the format and I don't think I can do screenshots off a PS3. For these reviews, I'm left at the mercy of PR materials and press websites, and in this case, the high-def images Fox made available all had that "Matt Groening" signature in the corner, even though he probably didn't draw much of anything on this set. Weird, but the movie does actually look like that.
 
Y'know, it helps if you watch them like they were obviously intended to be watched: I took a break every 22 minutes. If I view one of these DTVs for too long, everything starts muddling together and I pick up on less and less of the wittiness. Were these real movies, they'd have to ramp up the plot and change the mood to allow for audience restlessness, but they're actually episodes (though not as obvious as that Stewie DTV was).

One other thing that bugs me: Every time a show tackles feminism, every male character on that show INSTANTLY becomes ten times as insensitive and chauvanistic.

But when it comes down to essentials, they've still got it. I was impressed with how inventive the plot was and how they still knew to cut out the silliness when Fry thought the Dark One was him. If it was The Simpsons, they would have stuffed twenty jokes into that scene and killed it. If it was Family Guy, the scene never would have happened.

So dangit, I still want regular episodes to return. Even if it's never EXACTLY the same, Futurama cares for its audience like no other animated show today.
 
That's a shame, I really liked this one. I felt it was the best of the four films, and it definitely made me laugh as much as the original series did. I rented it, and I plan on buying, because the more it sells, the more FOX will want to bring back the series.
 
I did like the movie, but it's certainly not as epic as I'd hoped it would be. The Fry/Leela thing, though I'm thrilled it finally happened, felt forced, weak, and rushed. Some kind of buildup would've been nice - yes, this is basically after years of "Will they or won't they?" and angst for both parties - but it just felt too last minute for me. I'm disappointed.

It's still not as good as a typical TV episode, and I hope if they DO get another TV season, they'll really step up their game.
 
I didnt' like any of these too much. The first set of movies I thought was good. Sadly I didn't know this was the 4th and since I stopped going to the dvd section of store I seen Benders Game and bought them both.
I thought the ending was ok but through watching all of the movies I just felt like they were dragging adn couldn't wait for them to get over. I like it better as just a series than a batch of movies.
 
Well, just saw it... gotta say I'm mixed. Ed hit most of the notes that I had; I expected something more (perhaps unfairly), and got something that seemed to... ramble at times. It was LOL for the first "episode," but after that it kind of died out. I'd expected something epic, but it didn't seem to deliver outside of the "Fry's unique brainwave will help save extinct creatures from all over the universe." Still, I was entertained for most of the movie.

I'm especially "...?!" considering Fry/Leela. If THAT'S what they considered "resolved" in light of some of the things Fry's done for her that never seems to get through our beloved cyclops' skull...

I do enjoy the irony of humanity being preserved thanks to DNA from the eternally doomed Waterfalls, though I had my guesses once Hutch started talking for longer stretches of time.

I'm happy we didn't see Zapp that much, though. Really, REALLY sick of him since his whole shtick is reminding us he slept with Leela. I'm also happy to see that he didn't totally destroy Kif's feelings for Amy.

I was impressed by the huge "everybody ever" shot towards the climax. The only one -I- couldn't spot, outside of those killed off or from our time and maybe a few I've forgotten over the years, was Fry's girlfriend Miichelle (if she is there, tell me where?).

Since we're overall rating movies...by far and away, "Bender's Big Score" topped the list. Everyone's said what I think, so I won't repeat it.
*I wasn't a fan of "Backs," considering what we'd had before had and how quickly everyone forgets...
*"Bender's Game" was "meh." I can't be fair with that one, since I'm not into the whole RPG scene.
*This one... as Lrrr once said, "Okay, not great."

I leave the post with two questions...

1. Wonder what the significance was of the energy enveloping Fry and Leela? Is it perhaps part of "the other" prophecy of Nibbler's?
2. Who'd win in a ponytail fight... Leela or Charmcaster? :sweat: Charmy's got reach, but Leela's got moves...
 
I'm a bit mixed with this movie enough that it might bare repeated viewings in the near future. All I know is the last ten minutes or so made it feel more like an [open-ended] finale then the rest of the film which typically waltzed around like a normal Futurama episode (really, Fry and Leela's romance may have finally been solved, but it was ridiculously tacked on).

It's wholly average. Bender's Big Score is indefinitely the best of the lot, solid and near perfect in every form, hitting all the right notes. The others just couldn't rise up to its level (Bender's Game came the closest, but even that's a far shot). I'm aware each of the movie is essentially four episodes, but seeing Fanny strut around for 22 minutes only to be forgotten for the rest is jarring when the movie was suppose to be taken as...well, a movie. Now the series is done and I [kinda] hope it stays that way (no, I'm not too keen on the rumors of Futurama being a potential revival for FOX, being mostly a "Take it short and sweet instead of long and sour" kinda gal).

Now here's something that makes me wonder in the last scene of the movie. If the Planet Express Crew (and their equal lovers) are about to enter that black hole, possibly to never return...what'll happen to Farnsworth's cloned son and Hermes' son? I can't be the only one who's thinking that, am I?
 
My thoughts exactly! After all that drama, all that fighting on Leela's part, I'm supposed to believe this one small thing fixed everything?
 
You know, you just know, that when the show comes back and they get spit out the other side of that wormhole, the reset button will be pushed and Leela will have no memory of what just happened - but Fry will, because of his defective brain wave. You just know.

Actually, I'd like that, 'cause it'd give them a good excuse to do an episode where Leela admits she loves Fry and it doesn't feel tacked on at the end.
 
I pretty much agree, but I'm glad that Phil Hendrie had a good role. That guy should be getting a lot more work.

I think they ended it this way because they knew they were doing more. Even though they say its the end. This isn't the end they are probably going to do more.

Why did Bender act like he hadn't met the Donbot before?
