Toon Zone Talkback - FUNimation Announces New September Titles Including "Heat Guy J"

It''s supposed to be a set, given the original announcement was Season 1, Part 1.

This list may be incomplete as the FUNimation blog mentions that "Nabari no Ou" is aimed for a Septeraber release, and it might explain the absence of "Sgt. Frog". Although it's kind of weird "Sgt. Frog" is missing, at Anime Boston Adam Sheehan specifically mentioned the release date, that it was Season 1, Part 1, and even the voice-cast. Maybe it's been delayed again, and if so I hope that it's the sign of a T.V. deal.
 
I speculated on this back on the FUNimation forums. I think they're planning on discontinuing the Steelbook Double Features. I read somewhere that those cases are expensive, yet they're selling the DVRAB at a pretty reasonable price. I mean, Jesus, they didn't even jack the price up on the Broly Triple Feature. It makes sense that they'd release each remastered movie one by one in regular cases, rather than hiring a third party company for something as trivial as a case. The Steelbook cases are cool though. Luckily I have 6 of the double features already, all I have to do is snatch up movie 12 and 13 before the potential discontinuation.

With the single releases, I can see them also releasing more specials in the same format. Specials like Yo! Son Goku and His FrienRAB Return or Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans.

I'm also reaaaaallly looking forward to Dragon Ball Season One. It's pretty much been confirmed at this point. There's box-art on the product page, Trimark discontinued their Dragon Ball sets which leaRAB many to believe they lost the license, FUNimation renewed their license with Toei. On top of all of that, the Wal-Mart page has an accurate description of the product. The specs on the page are a little bizzare though, which leaRAB me to believe they just copied the information from the Trunks and Bardock singles. The "Product in Inches" describes a regular DVD case rather than a five or six disc set, the only language listed is Japanese, and it's listed as "Widescreen" which many believe FUNi knows better than to crop by now.
 
Oh. If that's true, I'm glad I already have all the Steelbooks. Still, they already release most of their DVRAB 2 to a case or in thinpaks of 2 slipcases, so there's no reason for them to release them separately.

How's the quality on the DBZ movie/special releases, anyways? I mean, I think most of them are in widescreen already - the movies, at least - but they have "digitally remastered" on them, which makes me wary that they've been through the same treatment as the TV series.
 
Movie 13 is pretty crappy. FUNi ditched the single release's stereo Japanese track for a muffled mono track while the remastering has made watching the night scenes pretty hard.
 
Well, the really long length of the TV series is also a factor. For the most part, I don't like collecting an anime series that's over 26 episodes.
 
I'll probably end up getting SGT. Frog, DB Season 1 and maybe Heat Guy J.

Though DB might be a mixed bag, if only for the widescreen aspect of it. You left GT uncropped, I hope they do the same with DB. Since FUNi did get a lot of flack from how they handled DBZ set, but I rarely see complaints on how GT was handled.
 
I've heard that FUNi's GT masters are 'digibeta' and thus it's not an actual print. Dragonball might be actual reels of film, so who knows.

All I know is...if they're cropped I'm not payin'.
 
Ghost Hunt is already getting a complete collection? Wow. But I already own it, so whatever. *shrug*

I still don't own History of Trunks... maybe I'll pick that up.

I'm on the fence about SGT Frog. I'm curious, but not willing to make the financial plunge when I have so many other series to collect... mostly from FUNi, coincidentally.

That being said, I am interested in Black Lagoon. Hm.
 
If you're on the fence about a 250+ episode series, I'd say don't bother. There's plenty of long series that I started to buy, but got bored with later on (or just switched to watching online).
