Toon Zone Talkback - FUNimation Announces New March Titles Including "Strike Witches"

I was expecting to hear more wailing and gnashing of teeth over Strike Witches. You fail me at providing entertainment value, rabroad

...While Eva certainly has its fan service moments, I dont think it can top anything that was actually nicknamed 'Pantsu Witches' by the fanbase. Heck, the show hangs a lampshade on it a couple times.

People kicked it around for awhile back when it was licensed. I'd rather point you to that thread than rehash that discussion again.

Anyhow, why complain more when there's so much obvious good stuff in one month?

I'm surprised no one is interested in the fact that Ouran getting a Blu-ray release espically considering the show's dub audio will probably be updated to 5.1 surround sound, which is great for people who love to hear the sound in such a way... like me!

Ah, cheap UK DVRAB, I am so glad I bought you now

Wasn't the Ouran dub--like all other FUNi dubs--mixed in 5.1 to begin with? If anything, they should mix it up to 7.1!!

...not that I plan on buying Ouran, but I like saying '7.1' and '5.1'. It's strangely fun to say... O.o

Nope, FUNimation only mixes certain shows and movies in 5.1, usually the more action packed stuff. Ouran falls into the shojo catergory and not a single FUNimation release of that genre has recieved a 5.1 Surround Sound DVD release.

Also, why don't you want to try Ouran? It's a surprisingly entertaining show. I used to think it was kind of bad based on the premise but trust me, it's actually really good! Why do you think us TZers voted it our 12th favourite anime?

1.11 has a little more footage and evidently superior video quality. In particular, there are brightness issues that were fixed/improved in 1.11. This page offers a truckload of comparison shots.

Huh! If 1.11 has additional scenes and better video quality, why bother releasing 1.01? I guess to get suckers like me to pay for it twice.

If it has better video quality I assume Blu-ray is the way to go.

A fairly small month for me..
Definite: Soul Eater Part 2, Evangelion 1.11 Blu-Ray
Pending: Strike Witches

Strike Witches is pending as Sentai Filmworks hasn't announced their March list yet. Reason being is, I can only afford 4-5 releases a month and well, its nitty gritty.

Wow, Aquarion and Kanon once had collections for $70 MSRP and now they're going to be $35 and $30 respectively. Meanwhile, Blu-Ray continues to be competitively priced. Notice in particular how Ouran Host Club's collection costs the same in either format. On another front, I happened to notice that Amazon is selling pre-orders for Gunslinger Girl's Blu-Ray release for $28, which is a crazy good sale for however long it lasts.

Slayers, One Piece, Kenichi, Sgt. Frog, and Soul Eater all in one month. I am going to be broke when March comes.

Sadly, that will likely never happen Dameon Clarke has left FUNimation

The miserable thing with the Gunslinger Girl Blu-Ray sets is you know eventually Funimation will come back and put them both in the same boxset, and with the OVA to boot, probably for the same MSRP as just one of the split season sets, and probably only a year or so from now.

Speaking of which, the Gunslinger Girl first season Blu-Ray set will mark the sixth time Funimation's released it in as many years. I'm not sure whether to call that a sign of success or excess. I love the show, but constant repackaging strikes me as less than positive.
