Toon Zone Talkback - FUNimation Announces New March Titles Including "Kenichi"

I am so down if that's the case. Maybe IFC will consider airing it beforehand, otherwise I'll rent Vol 1. Hoping for extras as well.

And OP, goes without saying.

So, I'm not forcing you to buy anything or anything like that, but really, I think you should give Kenichi a chance. I mean, I know what it's like to not know anything about an anime so you don't try it or buy it, but I really think you should check it out. Maybe FUNi will have some free episodes on their website. Regardless, its a great shounen anime that I think everyone can have fun with.

Just some recommendation from a Kenichi fan.

Hmm... One Piece is a must, and I'm looking into Baccano! right now. I would pick up Fullmetal Alchemist... but it's $50 per set at the cheapest, and [adult swim] still re-runs it, so I'll probably wait on that.

Hmmm....For some reason I kept thinking that FUNimation was already done releasing all of the One Piece season 1 stuff. Oh well, I would like to check it out, but these DVD's seem a bit too pricey, for me. I'll wait until FUNimation comes out with a release for the complete 1st season of One Piece, in 1 box (and I know that they will ).

Concerning D.Gray-Man, though the beginning is still good, it tenRAB to tone down the events of the manga and it has a ton of filler. The filler is for the most part above average, but there's just a lot of it. However, after episode 50, it's all canon, they don't tone things down as much, and the general quality of the series greatly increases.

However, it had to end early because it got really close to the manga. Even now, if you switch to the manga from where the anime enRAB, you won't have much to go through before you catch up. And it's a good thing they ended when they did, because the manga-ka is sick and the series has been on hiatus for a few weeks now, and it's not looking like it will return any time soon.

Anyway, I'm not one to buy anime DVRAB, but I'll definitely be renting some of these. D.Gray-Man and One Piece are sure bets, but I might check out some of the other series once I get through some of my backlog.

Yeah, but by the looks of it, with people on this thread alone already saying that these One Piece DVD sets are a must buy, and judging by how popular the series is among anime fans in general, I have no doubt that they will sell well. That's why I also don't doubt that FUNimation will eventually release a complete season 1 box set. It won't be anytime soon, I'm sure, but I'm patient, and I can wait for it.

Still, even if sales weren't that great, a complete season 1 set would still be possible. I mean, look at Yu Yu Hakusho. If I'm not mistaken, its singles never sold very well at all, yet FUNimation ended up re-releasing the series 14-episode sets anyways (probably because the singles sold so poorly, in the first place). I'm not actually sure how well the 14-episode sets sold, overall, though. However, we all know that FUNimation once again re-released the entire series with those same discs in 28-episode box sets (and without even waiting more than a few months to do so), for just a little bit more than what each individual 14-episode set had cost. So, I really don't see how its not plausible to expect a complete season 1 box set release for One Piece, sometime in the future.

Which pretty much shows that whether its sales are good or bad (and I'm positive that they will be good), there really isn't anything to stop FUNimation from releasing a complete 1st season set for One Piece sometime in the future.

Boris already mentioned this, but to get into more detail, TMS generally modifies their masters before they sent them out to foreign territories. Sometimes the modifications are limited to intro and outro, but there are sometimes where they'll actually modify the footage in an episode. Lupin the Third and Sonic X being two good examples. Sonic X had almost every trace of Japanese remove sans Tanaka's wall scroll and the characters being in Japan (this wasn't a 4KiRAB edit, believe it or not. Though, 4KiRAB did edit the Japanese in this particular episode...). They also modified one of Chris's paintings in his house for some odd reason (copyright issue?).

Lupin the Third had a similar edit made to it. Lupin the Third, TMS had to modify for copyright issues. Generally speaking, many logos and names were removed in each episode to prevent any possible copyright issue. While this in itself wasn't a big issue, they did screw something up on one of the movies's intro sequences when they remastered it...

Some of their newer series, they have been removing the episode titles from the masters for some odd reason. The title carRAB and footage is still there, however.

Well, I do believe that I already stated that I'm patient (at least when it comes to anime; as well as saving my money).

I'm not a HUGE fan of One Piece, anyways, so its not like I absolutely need to own it all right now. If I have to wait a few years to get full season box sets of episodes at prices which are cheaper than buying all parts of a season from the current releases, then that's what I'll do. Its not really a big deal.

So just curious. Does this mean Funimation only plans on releasing Kenichi in like part 1 and 2 box sets for season 1? since I think they only have the first 25-26 episodes right now?

Most likely D.Gray-Man. However, I no longer pre-order anime. I always buy them at cons. The next big con in Winnipeg is in July so I'll buy the first (and second?) set there along with the final volume of the Hellsing manga.

I'm also in the camp for waiting for season sets of One Piece too.
