Toon Zone Talkback - Fox Working on Animated "McKenzie Brothers"

'Tis true. Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas (both Canadians) originally created the hose-head characters of Bob and Doug MacKenzie for SCTV as filler material between sketches. Strange Brew wasn't made until after the characters took off.

As much as I enjoyed the 'Great White North' skits, I think they may have waited a little too long to give the MacKenzies their own series, eh?

At the same time, we only just recently got a George of the Jungle cartoon.

Or new cartoon? I heard there was an original cartoon, but I don't know if that's true or not.

You mean an original "George of the Jungle" cartoon? Yeah, it's true. Created by Jay Ward...which only had one season in the late 60s. The sad thing is that the new George cartoon has more episodes the original.

I have the first-season set of Chilly Beach, and while I enjoy it a bit, the writing can be a bit hit or miss. I also have some SCTV DVD sets, Strange Brew and the Great White North album. I really love the show as a whole, and obviously these two characters in particular, as well (just look at my avatar, eh?). I saw what seems to have been a pilot for this show a while ago online, and I remember having mixed feelings about it.

There was a big article in the Toronto Star about the McKenzie brothers making a comeback with this cartoon, and Dave Thomas said in the article that the writing would be multi-layered, with stuff for kids and adults. That sounds good, and I'm really rooting for the show to be good and succeed, but I have my doubts about it...

If they're gonna make a cartoon about Canadian sketch comedy characters, I wish they'd pick one of the characters from Kids in the Hall. A show about the Chicken Lady or Buddy Cole would be great.

Yeah your rigtht...but it still never got enough attention in my book. Some bits were just HILARIOUS.

A lot of it involved making funs of Americans (like the WMD episode) but still :p
