Toon Zone Talkback - FCC Seeks Fine from Fox Over "American Dad" Indecency Complaints

WOW.

Out of... EVERYTHING that Seth & crew have ever done, THIS is what they got fined for?

I believe, and someone correct me on this, that the scene being called into question is
Roger tricking Stan into sexually molesting a horse

I believe that is the scene in question, since I remember that the PTC also complained about that scene when the episode first aired. I find it funny that the scene was more implied, and they didn't show anything. I wonder if the scene from the recent Brian and Stewie episode will come into question soon enough?

I hope people aren't just reading the headline and discussing the news based on that alone. The article specifies the episode that caused the uproar, provides a link to other coverage that goes into more explicit detail than I felt was warranted, and also states that the fine is not for the incident itself, but because Fox apparently failed to address the FCC's inquiry to their satisfaction. It's the equivalent of a contempt-of-court citation for someone who's been accused of shoplifting. Couldn't fit that last bit into the headline, and apparently nobody else seems able to have done that, either.

Never underestimate the users of these forums. Users may be tempted to respond after reading present responses, but I believe they know it's best to read the details of the subject in order to formulate a great response. The quoted post reminds me of a local TV news presenter who used the word "apparently" twice in the same sentence recently. It's an overused word too many folks rely upon to express themselves.

If you're a parent and you let your kid under 14 watch Family Guy, Cleveland Show, or American Dad, what are you thinking? The disclaimers are there for a reason, it's just that you choose to ignore them and then sue because you're going broke.

Children?
Family Guy is not a kids show. Any parents showing it to their kids and being appalled at stuff like this aren't exactly bright. It's like showing a porno to somebody and being appalled at there being nudity.

Same goes for the American Dad incident. Kids should not watch that show. This is not on a kids network, nor is it targeted towards kids.

These parents must know their children's maturity level very well and have no reason to worry about the programs affecting them negatively or having to explain mature themes, as some children will eventually learn on their own. I don't care for the disclaimers, as they ruin the TV experience as much as the TV ratings, promotional graphics, and certain network logos.

I don't care for targeting audiences. More programs should appeal to folks of all ages and many program that have actually attempted to appeal to all audiences are among the best, but no one should watch a program they do not like, children or adults. I no longer watch "Family Guy" and "American Dad" due to their reliance on expletives that cannot be used on broadcast TV at the risk of stations' broadcast licenses. Language enhancers are unnecessary to the stories and they do not make the programs "adult" or "mature". They just remind me of how unpleasant folks could be in our lives.

In this day and age, where one of the most popular/well-known cartoons are primetime/very adult shows (South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy) and popular animated films getting lots of recognition from adults (When I went to go see Up!, I saw maybe, two or three kids in there. The theater was packed with adults), and more people becoming aware of the history of animation (and how it was originally targeted towards adults and such), an excuse like that wouldn't be bought by anyone.

can't even express yourself freely these days without worrying about being fined. it's entertainment. don't like it, don't watch it. simple as that. clearly ptc HAD to watch the ep right? those complaining HAD to watch the ep right? it's no secret to anyone what type of show AD and FG are. so why are they complaining?!!

Eh, I was watching Family Guy back when it first came out (I was 7 at the time) and there wasn't really any issues. Then again, the first three seasons were MUCH tamer than the recent stuff...

But yeah, these parents that complain are friggin ignorant. Even if Fox left the TV-14 rating on, put a bar that says "THIS SHOW IS NOT MEANT FOR CHILDREN" at the bottom of the screen, and even threw a voice-over every 30 seconds saying "VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED", they still act like there was no warning whatsoever. The television is just that much of a babysitter for their children.
