Toon Zone Talkback - "Family Guy's" Cleveland Will Get His Own Show

With the more surreal side of Seth's humor I would have preferred (and expected) his third show to be a less real-world genre, like a sci-fi or fantasy comedy. At least it wouldn't make THREE SHOWS IN A ROW ABOUT AMERICAN FAMILIES.

Well, the whole bit with Peter and Cleveland is admittedly amusing. But, the clips from the spin-off itself are just dreadful. And keep in mind, Peter won't be around in the actual show to crack wise either...

I wasn't sure what to make of this whole idea at first, and after seeing that trailer, I admit I'm a little skeptical. To be fair, most of the trailer was just recycled Family Guy clips, but what I saw of the actual show didn't wow me.

The biggest problem The Cleveland Show has in store for it is simply carving a niche for itself so it won't be written off as just another clone; this will be Seth's THIRD take on American family life; which is just ammo for naysayers to start calling him one-note. It didn't help much that the character concepts and ideas didn't seem all that great or original; when I saw the bit featuring the 5-year-old stepson, I couldn't help but think "African-American Stewie-sized Quagmire", the redneck characters only seem good for the occasional "black and white" jokes (shouldn't we be past racial intolerance humor by now?), and I just plain don't see the point of the time warped British neighbors or the anthro bears.

Of course, these are the exact sort of criticisms that plagued American Dad when it began, and currently I think AD is a better Family Guy than Family Guy right now. (Of course, it helps that the AD characters and situations are vastly different from FG's, and the overall execution is different.)

The Cleveland Show is really going to have to show me something new and innovative if I'm going to be jumping aboard the bandwagon.

She was also in Are We There Yet?, as well as it's sequel, Are We Done Yet? I guess she'll be doing television for a while. Still doesn't make me anticipate the Cleveland Show anymore, but there we are.

I really think that Seth MacFarlane should give sitcoms about American families a rest. So now Seth is going to have 3 animated shows about families running simultaneously? What can he do on The Cleveland Show that hasn't already been done on either Family Guy or American Dad?

The thought of Kevin Michael Richardson, a voice actor constantly given the roles of big burly African American men, playing a white redneck is awesome.

I'd have to beg to differ, the past two seasons of King were the best to me in ages. I've been really hoping this wouldn't be the last, since I'm getting more attached to the show then I've ever been.

Apparently it is apart of Seth's formula to have an animal that has no business talking. Hope they have a rational explanation as to why they can intergrate into society, somewhat like Klaus can talk, and not Brian.
