Stinks they only managed to get Spike back as Shinji and Allison back as Misato. Though Tiffany's worked with FUNi a lot in the past, so it shouldn't be too hard for them to get her back as Asuka...

Was that supposed to be Gendo's VA narrorating? I'm mixed on that guy.

As far as Ritsuko's new voice goes, I think it'll grow on me. Her old English voice could get a bit whiny, especially towarRAB the end of the series.

Sounding good, sounding very good. I only saw a chunk of episodes on Adult Swim so I'm not too invested in the voice casting of the past, but all the acting seems solid. I saw the sub of this during DC's Cherry Blossom Festival and was very impressed by how they updated things, so I really hope this release does well.

I'm still upset that they didn't have Greg Ayres reprise Kaworu, and yet cast him as Kensuke. Still, that trailer looked and sounded great.

As for Asuka, it wouldn't matter if Tiffany Grant was in a coma underwater halfway across the world. She believes she is Asuka. Nobody can take that role away from her.

Yes. They did have John Swasey reprise his role of Gendo from the Director's Cut episodes.

Too bad Tae isn't here to talk about this...

I never cared for John Swasey's Gendo. But I suppose I'm getting used to it. It's not that he's bad, but Tristian McAvery absolutely owned the role.

Asuka doesn't appear until 2.0 anyway though, right?

Anyway, voices aside (which I thought sounded fine), just watching the trailer, wow, this beats the pants off the TV series. I know it's a movie so it's naturally supposed to look and move better thanks to the higher budget, but still. Can't wait to see the whole thing.

I don't agree, but personal opinions aside, it makes more sense to have Greg reprise his role than to have someone else take it and recast him in another role.

No, they should have gotten anyone they could to reprise their existing characters. They obviously could have gotten Greg to reprise Kaworu, since he works with FUNi all the time, and they even got him to play a different character in the movie. They didn't even tell him the Evangelion character he was recording wasn't Kaworu until just before he started recording, which he was upset about. There shouldn't be a question of whether he should have been left out or cast as a different character. He should have just been able to reprise his existing character.

Yeah, they called him and told him to come record new Evangelion, and he was excited to record more Kaworu, since, by all logic, he should be reprising his existing role. Then he went to record, but just before he started, he noticed it was the wrong character, which made him pretty upset.

I hope that the film comes to Otakon at least. There haven't been a lot of big premieres announced so far. Until anything big like this comes to MD this summer, Otakon's gonna be a bit boring this year save for The Dealer's Room and the overrated, but fun, Otaku-rave.
