Toon Zone Talkback - E3 2010: Avi Arad Developing New "Pac-Man" TV Show

Apparently. Such a shame though. I was expecting something like New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Sonic 4, going back to your roots or something.

I'll probably give it a shot, since it sounds like something from the 80's and those things are good for me in cheese department.

I hear you. It use to be that cartoons didn't discriminate on how old the lead character was. Nowadays, you can't have cartoons with adult leads for fear of kids not identifying with them. That's never stopped Batman from getting new cartoons.

I've noticed this when I played 'Pac-Man World 3'. Pinky was depicted as a female ghost, but in the older games, and the Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Pinky was a male ghost.

Though that is why Batman Beyond was created.

Regardless, the amount of cartoons taking place in high school is starting to get ridiculous.

I found the video of the Pac-Man presentation at E3, the trailer for the series begins at 5:42 :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JuvXMpWxH4

Let me just start off by saying that I like Pac-man's new design, it updates the classic one, but at the same time doesn't completely change it. I have to admit after looking at the trailer this teenage Pac-man has a lot more personality than the adult Pac-man, still a kid who loves to eat has a mentor with a big nose and a mustache, Why dose that sound so familiar: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/0f/Chowder-group.jpg

After seeing the trailer, I must admit that this doesn't look so bad. I do like the futuristic look of Pac World, and Pac-Man himself seems to have a 'shiftless glutton who occasionally knuckles up to do the hero thing' personality, which is different. At least Packy isn't being portrayed as blandly virtuous.

We only got a passing glimpse of the ghosts, but they didn't appear to be copies of the Hanna-Barbera renditions of the characters, which I don't think is a bad thing. Clyde (the orange ghost) appeared to be the "big dumb lunk" of the group; he kind of looked like an orange version of B.O.B. from Monsters VS Aliens.

I admit this could have looked a lot worse, but I'm still taking a "wait and see" attitude with this.

Maybe this is really Baby Pac all grown up, and his missing unknown parents or whatever are the original Pac Man and Ms Pac. Anyways...

Wouldn't this make him "Pac-Boy", not "Pac-Man"?

He goes to boating school, because he consistently fails every year. What does working at the Krabby Patty have to do with age? Adults work at fast food all the time. And once when Spongebob and Squidward were replaced, it was specified that they were being replaced by teenagers.

The concept behind this show kind of reminds me of something that you would see in the 80's with the ghosts being friends of Pac-Man, but I'm all for Pac-Man getting back into the public eye with an animated series, even if it's bad at least it would put the iconic character back in the limelight somewhat. If the show is successful you never know what could happen, maybe we would even see the Super Mario Brothers and Zelda revivals within the animation world? That would be sweet!

Co-Sign, I loved Pac-Man growing up but this looks AWFUL. They should Mega-Man or something. Besides, that's what this looks like anyway with the gun.
