Toon Zone Talkback - Dreamworks "The Penguins Of Madagascar" Movie In The Works

I think it?s safe to assume that they are going to use the movie penguins. The penguins changed for the sake of the series, in both appearance and personality ? and voices as well. After watching the series for so long, the movie penguins don?t seem ?normal? anymore, and I wonder if they will be able to hold an entire movie. The reason they were changed for the series was because they didn?t believe the movie versions could hold plots by themselves and that they weren?t easily distinguishable from one another.

If that's the case, then my expectations for this film have been cut in half. I really like the personalities of the TV Penguins more than the movies. I tried to watch the movies again recently, and the Penguins really do feel like different characters in the movie than the TV show.

Why would they make a feature length movies based on "The Penguins of Madagascar" and then use versions of the characters that only had small roles in the films as opposed to the fleshed out versions that appear in the series?

At this point Jeff Bennet IS Kowalski, while I can't see Rico being done by anyone else but John DiMaggio.

I don't think Rico would be one to worry about, as John DiMaggio has always voiced Rico, both films and TV series.

I agree that using the personalities from the film versions wouldn't be very smart, as this film IS based on the TV series and the Penguins are all main characters, unlike in the Madagascar films where only Skipper had a great amount of screentime/personality. The other Penguins got minimal focus and it was the TV series that developed their individual characteristics.

I was interested until Huntsman brought up the possibility of them using the movie Penguins. Seems a bit nutty to me since the TV versions of the characters are way better and have evolved quite a bit since the movies.

I must agree with the other posters' concerns. At this point, the series' penguins have surpassed their movie counterparts. Kids especially have come to know them. The penguins in the movie lack the same characterization and appearance, though Private and Skipper remain pretty much the same. It's more Rico's design that would cause issues. Kowalski, however...The two are barely the same character.
