This is the talkback thread for "Dragonball Z: Dragon Box 1" Your Wish Has Been Granted.

although i'd recommend watching dragon ball 1st for a better understanding of the history of the characters, it's not entirely necessary.

even still, with dbk currently airing in hd and a new audio track, it's better to just wait for that instead of all this rehashed dbz stuff.

Wait for Kai? Why would someone wait for Kai if it only goe's up to the Frieza arc? And to me the Dragon Box looks much better than Kai. I also disagree with the Dragon Book being the "Main Treat" of the box. The main treat is what us "hardcore" fans have been dying for: The episodes. I mean if you want a nice looking booklet get a daizenshuu.

You really think Toei is really going to stop at Freeza for Kai? When it's pretty much giving them stellar ratings and free money on a platter? This is probably just the same situation as the Code Geass/Gundam 00 Sunrise double season thing in which one takes a break while another popular franchise holRAB the spot for the remaining episodes to air. In this case, it's the Digimon season (that's just assuming it's real which I will believe it is)

Nice review by the way. I'm glad somebody else noticed Gohan apparently losing like 30 pounRAB.

Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Kai aren't even the same series. They're too very different adaptations with very different feels (even if the animation of Dragon Ball Kai is sourced from Dragon Ball Z).

Somewhat changing topics a bit:
Why are ppl are so sure that DBKai is coming to the U.S? FUNi never did say anything about bringing it over here. Unless they hinted it they were.

Back to topic:
Though, I will never find the reasons why are ppl are going ga-ga's for it. You could give me a list of reasons why, but (IMO) its still not good enough. But if you never bought any Dragonball Z DVD Boxset's yet, love wasting money, got some money to spare or a “HARD-CORE” ( ) fan, well here's your chance.
As for me, I might wait for the Dragonball DBOX instead.

These sets are properly remastered and don't look like utter crap, is why so many are happy. Not to mention, for once, a Dragon Ball video release is being aimed at fans of the original Japanese version, and not the heavily Americanized version's fanbase. This release shows promise to be both consistant and the first stellar looking version of the show. This is the ultimate release for Dragon Ball Z fans worldwide, unless Toei drops another couple million into created a full on Blu-ray exclusive 1080p High-Def master.

They will...They will.

But, like I said, its really nothing if you ask me. But thats me. And I think I know what me like.
But hey, everyone got their reasons. :P

Ultimately the Dragon Boxes are not so much exciting for what they ARE-- extras like the Dragon Book and the similarities in packaging between this and the Japanese version are neat for completionists and purists but don't have much in the way of broad appeal-- but for what previous releases WEREN'T. Namely a full, consistent, uncut, respectful, definitive release of the show on home video. It's easy to be blas

Actually, they have said repeatedly that if it's Dragon Ball, they are interested in it. Period. I've attended industry panels where that's been said, along with comments about how DBZ "prints money." Do they want it? Damn right they do.

Geez, come to think of it, it was Katsucon 2009 when I heard em say that the orange bricks wouldn't be the last release of DBZ. That was probably a Dragon Box hint right there.

Mynd is completely correct about the merits of the Dragon Box, so I have nothing to add to that really...I do think the booklet is a cool extra, though.

So the booklet is the main appeal of the Dragon Box? Funny, I thought it was having the right to buy DBZ in an uncropped format and having it close to what the Japanese got with their DBox release. Also I agree with Mynd statement that this should have been a review on the difference between the Orange Bricks and the DBox, instead of it being devoted to one to two sentences.

Well, I feel this set was worth it because being a DragonBall fan myself I was unsatisfied by the orange bricks. Cropping a 20+ year-old TV show I have fond memories of as a kid is a real turn-off.

The Sayain Saga was worth the $50 I payed for it. However, considering the higher prices for these DBoxes I may only purchase certain future sagas and not others.

It's all about smart shopping, and by that I mean at RightStuf, where you can get both of the sets currently available for order for under fifty bucks.

I'll buy a Dragon Ball dragonbox if it comes out (and it will) but these DBZ dragonbaoxes and the Gt ones I wont get because if the only real extra is the Booklet than what's the point, since all i care about is the shows episodes anyway.

Actually, before this release Dragon Ball Z has never had a North American release with the proper opening and ending footage for each episode, as well as the next episode previews.

The multi-million dollar "You will never have this remastered footage" remastering done frame-by-frame by hand aside, of course.

I'm passing on the boxes. I was thinking about picking up #1 out of curiousity, but after all the money I have spent on DBZ over the years, and the fact that I recently finished watching the series via the season sets, I am happy with what I have and do not see a purpose to buy the series again until Kai is out on Blu-Ray. On the other hand, is the Jp audio an improvement? That was the only thing that truly bothered me in the season sets is that the audio was so bad in some episodes, whether it was full of drop outs, static noise, etc. Do these boxes fix them? If so, maybe I'll pick them up when they are on sale. I do know that at the Best Buy I work at, we have not sold a single Dragon Box since the day it came out.

BTW, the Funimation rep at NDK back in Sept said during his panel that they are in talks about being able to do Kai on both DVD and Blu-Ray at the same time.
