Toon Zone Talkback - "Dragonball Z: Cooler Double Feature": Fine Fights, Dubious Dubs

This is the talkback thread for "Dragonball Z: Cooler Double Feature": Fine Fights, Dubious Dubs.

Oh crap, I forgot all about this.

Ah well, at least the pictures are purdy.

I bought the double feature a while back and I love it. Cooler's Revenge is one of my favorite DBZ movies. I especially like the songs by Disturbed and Drowning Pool.

I agree with your review, the only reason I'm buying these things is to watch the dub with Shunsuke Kikuchi's music in the background, though I mostly lean towarRAB the Japanese cast, FUNimation is actually doing us a favor

Actually, movies five and six have sort o' gotten pretty high up there on my list of favorite DB films. Truthfully, I'd have preferred if they were used for filler arcs to that Coola could get more expansion.

I think that movies 5 and 6 are probably the third and fourth best of the DBZ movies. Cooler made for an interesting antagonist as he was the complete opposite of his brother (He didn't let his pride and anger take control of him like Freiza did) and had some very intense and well staged battles. Personally though I thought the dubs for the movies were actually quite good and pretty accurate to the original although I agree with you on the music the dub used which was bleh compared to the original score.

For me it's become more that the character's are often so radically different from the originals that I'd rather listen to a cast which is both A) properly directed and B) quite natural. Many of FUNimation's actors use forced voices and acting and the scripts often misrepresent the original motivations of the characters (specifically the Saiyans).

I would say Cooler's Revenge is in my top 3 favorite movies. I really enjoyed it a lot. Cooler would've been perfect for a filler arc like Paschal said.

This movie really exemplified the ridiculousness of the way Funimation spells names in Dragonball Z. For some reason they spelled Freeza as Frieza. Perhaps they didn't like the pun? But, then they retain the pun with Cooler, but they spell it with an er at the end instead of an a. How about a little consistency?

I really enjoy the Cooler Duology. They hold a special place in my heart as the first two DBZ movies I saw, and at the height of my fandom for the series.
