This is the talkback thread for "Dragonball Z" Bardock/Trunks Specials: Too Deep and Too Redundant.

Yeah, these releases were really out of nowhere. Funnily enough, the planned single releases of the Dragon Ball Z movies that were supposed to be in the same vein as these were canceled soon after we got cover art for them.

Never watch them again? Woow, woow, woow, these Dragonball Z specials are one of the greatest plots that I ever seen. Very deep & very sad. Well, in Dragonball Z level I mean.
I will buy it again. Because, I lost the VHS's of them years ago. AND I love these specials. So, why not?

Also these are the only Dragonball Z anime I will watch in JP dub too. And you know me about JP Dub and U.S Dub.

I loved the History of Trunks Special the best. Future Gohan rocked and I loved the battles. I own this copy on video, watch it whenever I can

Man, History of Trunks is one of the sadest Dragonball Z plot ever. I can name so many great dub (And some JP) quotes in that special.

Its true it is the saddest plot on DBZ. I cried when I first saw the special, when Future Gohan died. I was hopping he'd make it through, now I know what happens. Still though, he's my favorite character. Yah they did do a good job on the special, that you can watch it and enjoy the special.

But thats why the Trunks special is so good. Trunks is living in Hell and trying to find hope in the world that he's living in. He lost his dad, friend master. And he's the only guy that can stand up to 17 and 18.
I really have to say the writing and directing was very spot on. Both from the JP and U.S side. You get the idea Trunks is alone. Nothing is helping him in this world. The only choose he think he has is run and die or fight and die. Hope doesn't exist.
I could find so many reasons why this special is great but I think you get the point.

Though, as for Bardock special; its a little bit different. The main idea of the plot is the same. But Bardock personality is different a bit. In the JP dub, he only care about killing Frieza. But in the Dubs, its kinda the same, but he's more caring. Kinda.
Watch the very end of Bardock special where Bardock say's his last message to Goku.
I personally like the Dub version myself. But in the JP version...Bardock is dark.

Yeah, the dub script is one of the most altered of all dub scripts. It really isn't even the same product, what with the altered intentions. The dub has always played the Saiyans as honor-bcound warriors under the suppressing and corrupting thurab of Freeza to do his dirty work. In the original, they did it for fun.

These are much better than nearly all of the movies in my book, and they have the added benefit of actually being a sensible part of the canon storyline. Bardock's special is a decent enough blast to the past, whereas in DBZ we only get to see Future Trunks finish off the androiRAB after the Cell Saga. The Trunks special fixes that, allowing fans to basically get the full picture. And yeah, it's pretty damn sad. Future Trunks' world is DBZ with Dragon Balls replaced by consequences. The fact of DBZ apparently having a multiverse notwithstanding, thank goodness for time travel.

I kinda agree. The dub did state that the saiyans did love to fight. But the plot was mainly focus on Freeza and the saiyans.

Anyways, Bardock special has a good revenge plot, but it depenRAB how you watch it either by the original or U.S dubs. Because like I said, Bardock personality is a little bit different. You get the main idea what's he is doing, but the character theme is change a bit....By the ending I mean.
